The trial is starting next Monday 17th May Derry DAWC have a bus booked to leave Derry at 7.30am, from just beside the Guildhall to travel to Belfast with all of our wonderful supporters on it. You get to spend a day in court....or some of the day in court and the rest shopping or meeting friends....and we will ...be back in Derry at about 5.30 or 6 at latest. Gardai have again attacked campaigners protesting at the bank bailouts this time with batons and dogs. This morning around 7am four people got onto on the overhang of Anglo irish Bank and chained themselves together with a banner read that read 'People of Ireland Rise Up.' In the last half hour a force of some 50 police, secret police and dogs attacked them and their supporters on the ground with batons, fists and feet. Seymour Hersh reveals how US troops are executing pows in Afghanistan. He also speaks about thhow the Bush Adminstration had developed detailed plans for a military attack on Iran. Pics 1-5 For the record, I want to give my account of what I witnessed at the Dáil on Tuesday at the Right To Work Campaign march. Having been at many demonstrations in Dublin over the past 15-20 years, it’s common knowledge that the gardai and mainstream media (RTE usually) always underestimate the attendances. From what I saw, 1700 - 2000+ people is a fair estimation of those that took part. Considering the bad weather and the fact that Dublin City Council had most of the march posters taken down beforehand, it was a good turnout. Hopefully, it will be built on. U.S. military traffic through Shannon was down significantly in April due to the spread of the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland. The ongoing presence of this ash in and around Irish airspace has now resulted in the re-routing of all troop and military cargo flights through different bases worldwide. Since early May there have been no U.S. Air Force cargo or troop carriers at Shannon. Clearly the U.S. military leaders are not prepared to risk having cargo or soldiers that are essential to their wars of occupation sitting on the ground in the west of Ireland. read full story / add a comment

Last Tuesday Gardai used extendable steel batons against the heads of protesters trying to enter the Dail carpark resulting in at least five head injuries. We've seen the state react in a similar fashion to resistance in Rossport, Mayday 2004 and Reclaim the Streets. It's time to say Enough. read full story / add a comment
