In view of the recent upsurge in gold exploration the Exploration and Mining Division and the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) have collaborated to produce the first ever digital release of data on gold occurrences, a free CD containing information on over 300 gold occurrences within Ireland. Also available is a seperate CD devoted to Cregganbaun, a ‘Target Area’ with 11 contiguous Prospecting Licence Areas (PLAs) in southern Co. The Freedom Flotilla to Gaza, which includes 11 Irish people, expects to arrive at it's destination within 48 hours despite Israel's vow to block the mission from delivering much needed aid to the beleaguered coastal strip. A forum of seven senior Israeli ministers who met on Wednesday 26th May have decided that the Israeli Navy will enforce a twenty mile exclusion zone around Gaza and will arrest all 800 crew and passengers taking part in the Freedom Flotilla should they pursue their mission to break the ongoing siege of Gaza. read full story / add a comment

Yesterday morning, as is their wont, Israeli Occupation Forces intruded into the village of Bilin, this time there were only three to the forefront with backup behind them, when challenged they beat a retreat. Yesterday afternoon, villagers rushed to quench a fire in an olive tree sited close to the Apartheid-Annexation Wall which had to be deliberately set on fire by the retreating IOF, but which was unable to be saved due to the fire being set in a crevice in the trunk which smouldered throughout the day and it was only in the latter stages that the tell-tale smoke was detected. read full story / add a comment

Despite the election of NoyNoy Aquino III to succeed the corrupt, brutal Arroyo, 43 healthcare workers continue to suffer military torture in the Philippines. Five detainees--Valentino Paulino, Cherrylyn Tawagon, Ellen Carandang, Jennylyn Pizarro, and John Mark Barrientos--remain confined to miitary dungeons, while 38 were transferred to Bicutan Camp Bagong Diwa, notorious for the massacre of Moro suspects. Carandang's children were taken from their home by the military, while the rest are subjected to daily torture, harassments of family and relatives, threats, and other horrors. ON SATURDAY MAY 29 a march will take place in Belfast to demand political status for the Republican prisoners in Maghaberry. Nearly thirty cyclists who had started off from Merthyr Tydfil in Wales the previous day arrived in Ringaskiddy on the ferry early on Monday 24th of May. They passed through Cork city on their way up the west coast to Rossport, Co. Mayo, and were joined by a dozen-strong cycle contingent from Spain, who had cycled all the way from Madrid, also linking struggles against fossil fuel extraction in Spain with those in Wales and here in Ireland. read full story / add a comment

Starting from humble beginnings in the St. Nicholas of Myra Hall in The Liberties five years ago, last years Bookfair was arguably the most successful to date.
