SIPTU Organiser Teri Cregan has reacted angrily to the Secretary of State Owen Paterson's recent assertion that there would be 'no negotiation' on the £4bn of cuts facing the north.

He made the remarks while giving a speech at a Co-operation Ireland dinner in Belfast on Thursday evening, stating.

"A settlement is precisely that - a settlement. It is not the opening round of a negotiation... Northern Ireland is now the only part of the United Kingdom that hasn't set a budget following the spending review settlement. That cannot go on."

Ms Cregan branded the statement as "Tory arrogance in the extreme."

The latest leaks from Wikileaks offer proof for what many have suspected for a long time - that American embassies are little more than fronts for the activities of the CIA and other US spying agencies .
Patrick Martin , reviewing the latest batch of wikileaks in light of the terrorist murder two days ago of another Iranian nuclear scientist , writes that US embassies have been instructed to focus their espionage activities on plans for the overthrow of the present Iranian regime.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sees the anti-Iran propaganda and Islamophobia as having paid dividends for the zionists . Martin quotes Netanyahu saying :
“Our region has been hostage to a narrative that is the result of 60 years of propaganda, which paints Israel as the greatest threat. In reality leaders understand that that view is bankrupt. For the first time in history there is agreement that Iran is the threat.” read full story / add a comment

Reclaim our natural Resources
Time for a new Land League?

This is a short briefing regarding the ongoing privatisation of Coillte. It needs to be considered in conjunction with the theft of our other resources, including but not limited to oil and gas, water, minerals, fish, seeds and various utilities. I have done as much research into it as I am able for the time being. I hope others will be able to take up the baton and go deeper with a view to developing strategies to counter this. Please pass it this info on to relevant people.

In releases giving to the media on the 28th of November, in which Road Tax was discussed,
Minister Brian Dempsey's tone suggested that the Road Tax exemption, that allows people to take their car off the road, was being used willy - nilly by people who had left the country for a period of time and then returned to start re-using the vehicle.
This is a pure distortion of the facts, if not a complete lie, and has to be challenged, even if is only for the sake of correction.

Today in Dublin, in a massive demonstration not witnessed in Ireland since 2003 when over 100,000 marched in protest against the then impending criminal attack on Iraq by the US, a similar number marched in protest against their ongoing immiseration by a criminal Irish government, hell bent on forcing on them and the most vulnerable in Irish society the gambling debts of their cronies in the financial and property developer sector of the Irish economy. read full story / add a comment

There was a huge turnout on the march today to protest against the IMF/EU Cuts FF Government despite the freezing weather.

A huge mass of people had assembled at Wood Quay for 12 noon and it was a sea of flags, banner and placards and it took at least half an hour possibly more for the full procession of people to pass. Many were blowing whistles and a few banging pots and pans in recognition of the IMF Argentina crisis back in 2001. The march stretched all the way back along the North side of the quays to O'Donovan Rossa bridge connecting Winetavern St beside Wood Quay to Ormonde Quay. read full story / add a comment
