Gerry Adams made a big contribution to politics with his statement on the EU and IMF and has shown the way out of the mess that the political establishment and their EU and IMF overlords have saddled the Irish People with for the next 20 to 50 years. As well as defaulting we need to free ourselves from the IMF shackles and to leave the EU as soon as we can. read full story / add a comment

Tariq Ali believes that the documents are genuine and that they expose the abject treachery of sections of the PLO leadership. Full text at link.

The ‘Palestine Papers’ being published this week by al-Jazeera confirm in every detail what many Palestinians have suspected for a long time: their leaders have been collaborating in the most shameful fashion with Israel and the United States. Their grovelling is described in grim detail. The process, though few accepted it at the time, began with the much-trumpeted Oslo Accords, described by Edward Said in the LRB at the time as a ‘Palestinian Versailles’. Even he would have been taken aback by the sheer scale of what the PLO leadership agreed to surrender: virtually everything except their own salaries. Their weaknesses, inadequacies and cravenness are now in the public domain. read full story / add a comment

Defend Free Speech- Fight PSNI and Unionist intimidation
QUB Republican Congress has been prevented by Unionists and their supporters from being registered as a full society despite having fulfilled all the SU requirements. As a result the society is being prevented from holding meetings on SU or college property. Having had three successful public meetings before Christmas in private venues with three hundred in attendance the society has planned a full list of meetings/protests for the coming term. However PSNI/RUC intimidation has resulted in access to these private venues also being denied to the society. However 'The Republican Congress' is determined to push ahead and plans to hold the first two meetings as open air events in front of QUB Students Union.

Defend Free Speech and attend these meetings.

Inspired by Tunisian demonstrators, thousands of Egyptian protesters on Tuesday gathered in Cairo and other major cities, calling for reforms and demanding the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak, The anti-government protesters, some hurling rocks and climbing atop an armoured police truck, were chanting slogans against Mubarak, who has ruled the country for three decades.Downtown Cairo came to a standstill with protesters chanting slogans against the police, the interior minister and the government, in scenes that the capital has not seen since the 1970s.
