This week a senior engineer told Cork City Councillors that 60% of that city’s water supply leaked out of the system. This situation is repeated up and down the country to one degree or another.

However instead of investing the resources needed to repair our water supply as a matter of urgency this government is determined to press on with the crazy strategy of installing water meters in homes that don’t already have one. This is estimated to cost €600 million. The government intends to fund this by introducing a flat rate ‘utility charge’ next year and then once meters are installed to begin charging people based on their use of water.

The recent official visit by the British Queen to the Republic of Ireland led to many temporary restrictions on the freedom of Irish workers and the loss of income to many of them due to the disruption it caused in Dublin and other places in Ireland.

Among other things it intensified alienation by the exclusion of the vast majority of citizenry from the various public events staged in Ireland for the British Queen. Only a small elite can be be trusted, in such contexts, by the Irish state.

I watched the BBC news today that showed Anti - Gadaffi Protesters shouting outside Buckingham Palace.
One thing that struck me as very odd is the fact the they could get so close to the Palace,
especially considering that Barack Obama had just drove into the Palace a short time earlier.
That was until a light bulb went on in my brain. The reason, I said to myself, why they got so close
was that they were against Gadaffi and not in favour of him or his regime either, stupid!.

The official Garda response to the release of the ‘rape tape’ last month was contrite and sympathetic, in accordance with the public mood of outrage. But behind the scenes, familiar tactics were deployed: Gardaí used the media to try to divert attention from the recording by maligning the women who released it. And while there was a lame attempt to blame the women for delaying the investigation in the first week, it now transpires that the Sergeant at the centre of affair still has not been interviewed by the Garda Ombudsman. read full story / add a comment

All are agreed, something amazing is happening right here and right now on this beautiful little planet. And, by Christ do we need it!!! A week ago, even in Spain, there wasn’t too much awareness of what was going on with the M-15 movement, but now, only days later and it appears that a bomb has gone off. Last look on the digital map of places participating in the #SPANISHREVOLUTION gave a count of 650 (yes that’s right SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY) places around the planet expressing solidarity with what’s going on here in Spain, or being inspired to bring the revolution to their part of the world. read full story / add a comment

It has been weird being in Dublin security city the past week. It reminds me a lot of
growing up in the police state of Queensland/Australia in the late '70's.

On Thursday, I was stopped and searched by police five times before noon and shaken down by the Special Branch 3 times over the two daze. My poster (photo of Giusepe Conlon...with the words "Remember Giuseppe Conlon and All Victims of Empire") remains in police custody,
confiscated by an Inspector under State Security legislation.
