national / anti-capitalism / press release Saturday June 14, 2008 14:53 by Irish Socialist Network
The Irish Socialist Network welcomes the decision of the Irish people to reject the Lisbon Treaty – a document that would have promoted the militarisation of the EU, entrenched Thatcherite principles in European law, and further undermined democracy. After this result, the Lisbon Treaty should be dead and buried. No re-hashed, re-packaged version of the same document should be foisted on the people of Europe. No means no. read full story / add a comment
international / anti-war / imperialism / news report Friday June 13, 2008 23:19 by Edward Horgan
shannon was very quiet this morning with very few "civilian" passengers. Just a few Ryanair jets and even less Aer Lingus, now that they decamped to Belfast. Much of the business at shannon was breaching Irish neutrality. More importantly, the CIA and military use of shannon this morning was directly complicit in breaches of the UN Convention against Torture and international laws including the Geneva Conventions on War. read full story / add a comment

national / rights, freedoms and repression / news report Monday June 09, 2008 22:58 by John Lannon
On Sunday afternoon, a group of anti-war and human rights campaigners walked the 15 miles from the historic Treaty Stone in Limerick to shannon airport, scene of Ireland’s complicity in war and torture. There they joined members of Amnesty International, Coisantoiri Siochana and others who had come to attend the monthly shannon vigil. The vigil was, as always, a peaceful remembrance of all who have died, disappeared or been tortured as a result of the senseless “war on terror”. It was also a reminder to our Irish public representatives that their failure to question US military and CIA use of the airport is shameful and intolerable. read full story / add a comment

We must continue to connect up the dotted lines in the web of deceipt, mass murder, torture and militarisation that is being facilitated at shannon airport. The Lisbon Treaty, with its NATO entanglement is part of this growing web, as is Ireland's fraudulent neutrality. Well over one million US troops have transited through shannon airport since 20 March 2003. CIA are still using shannon as a refuelling stop for its torture rendition planes, usually at about 2 am in the morning. Torture is best hidden in the dark of night. One million US troops fighting unlawful wars, also need millions of tons of military cargo including depleted uranium bombs, so that they can more easily kill innocent people. When one is engaged in an unlawful war, all the victims of such a war are innocent. The principal unlawful combatants in Iraq are the US military and US and other colaition of the willing mercenaries such as Blackwater. read full story / add a comment

international / anti-war / imperialism / news report Friday May 09, 2008 12:03 by CIA Watch shannon
The following letter has been published in the Irish Times on 9th May 2008. This is a significant development, because the Gardai and the Irish Government authorities have clearly failed to carry out their duties towards prevention of the crimes of torture at shannon airport. This however does not relieve the citizens of Ireland of their responsibilty to prevent torture. It is the moral and legal duty of all Irish citizens to take 'all neccessary means' to prevent the possible continuing use of shannon airport by the CIA and the US military for the purpose of transporting prisoners for torture. read full story / add a comment

Garda says that lots of people find anti-war banners offensive, and is looking for the least excuse to have them removed. Whatever about his illegitemate and unprofessional power-hungry bullying, this garda must have turned off his critical faculties regarding the offensive nature of illegal invasions and one million Iraqi dead. It seems the Irish state police would rather banish factual posters in a temporary vigil, than investigate what's on CIA and US Army flights going through shannon Airport. read full story / add a comment
