Slavery was abolished in the West after Roger Casement an Irish republican of good dissident stock, kicked up about it. Generally it only continues in third world places such as Africa, South-east Asia and parts of the middle-east. However bonded Labour which is reality another form of slavery, is more common than you think and has been re-introduce into Ireland, which has un-officially become a third world country again. read full story / add a comment

The year 2010 will forever be remembered in the Republic Ireland as the year in which our national sovereignty was ceded to the European Union / IMF and the rights of the Irish people were set aside in the interests of international capitalism and the financial, business and banking elites who have used the economic crisis to tighten their hegemonic control over the world read full story / add a comment

Fine Gael the main opposition party in the Irish state, is already flush with corporate and bankster muck money, well over €2 million, already, with just some of it coming in from its own gambling sources.Their long time partners with the dubious and misleading title of 'Labour' have already, more than a million, with big contributions also rolling in, via., the fat cat corrupt front of fake trade union leadership, along with the corporations and banks. read full story / add a comment

Another year has passed by where the Palestinian people have been denied their right to self-determination, have lived under an illegal occupation and have had to endure daily hardships under an occupying force. Despite this, when one looks into the new year, the future may seem brighter than it would appear as the public becomes more and more aware of the struggle for freedom in the Occupied Territories. read full story / add a comment

In the next few weeks, more than likely An Bord Pleanála will be announcing their decision on whether to grant permission to Shell to build the onshore section of the Corrib Gas pipeline. Below is a review of the reopened oral hearing that ran from the 24th of August until the 1st of October in 2010 in Belmullet. Again (this is the fourth convening of an oral hearing), opponents of the Corrib Gas Project made lengthy and comprehensive submissions on why they are opposed to the project. A fair few of these submissions can be read in full here: http://www.shelltosea.com/content/submissions-bord-pleanala read full story / add a comment

Only IFUT and TUI proposed doing anything about Public Sector Pension Cuts. INTO and INMO mentioned the cuts in statements. There was no mention of the cuts on Websites of the following bodies: ICTU, SIPTU, ASTI, CPSU, PSEU, IMPACT. Union responses are pasted below.

While INTO, ASTI, TUI are running a campaign against the pension rip-off of new public servants announced in the Budget, there is no mention of this issue by the silent unions above. It is believed that ICTU has refused to oppose the new “pension Scheme” which is in effect a tax because the individual gets less out than was contributed (Trident Report to Teaching Unions). There is no proposal by any union to do anything about the pay cut for new entrants. This decision breaches a whole range of existing industrial relations agreements and agreed circular letters. read full story / add a comment

Approximately 1500-2000 people took the streets in Belfast today, marching from schools and universities to congregate at the City Hall, Belfast to protest the proposed increase in fees, which could see people being charged up to £9,000 a year for tuition. The protest was also against the cuts in EMA, a small fee paid to secondary school students from lower-income families to help pay for their final two years of higher education. read full story / add a comment
