Through our endorsement of Revolutionary Republicanism, we stated without apology that the defence of Irish Sovereignty, the achievement of true Independence and the struggle for Socialism were mutually inclusive tasks and that negation of one signalled a dangerous rejection of the other. We stated clearly that the mobilisation of the masses is a task which cannot be bypassed and that key to that task is the presence of Republicanism within and alongside day to day struggles of workers, campaigning groups and communities. read full story / add a comment

“Ireland holds the undesirable position of being the only country currently undergoing a banking crisis that features among the top-ten of costliest banking crises along all three dimensions [..fiscal cost, increase in debt and output loss..], making it the costliest banking crisis in advanced economies since at least the Great Depression. And the crisis in Ireland is still ongoing” (Laeven and Valencia, 2012: 19-20) “That in what pertains to the control of credit the constant and predominant aim shall be the welfare of the people as a whole” Bunreacht na hÉireann, Article 45, Directive Principles of Social Policy read full story / add a comment

Capitalism is destroying the planet. Now we suffer. The devastating horror unleashed by monster-typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) upon the eastern and central Philippines regions is unspeakable. As of writing, estimates of the number of casualties and actual damages are tentative because many areas remain isolated and communications, power, road and port systems are down. read full story / add a comment

Some in the U.S. are fearful of speaking out against the wars and social injustice because of the surveillance state.
Since the beginning of the new millennium some people have been guarding their words as if they were in a Communist country. When George W. Bush came into power in 2001 and after the tragedy of September 11th, we became engaged in another war. Mainstream media was almost completely silent on the negatives of a War on Terror. read full story / add a comment

I couldn't help but notice, the difference in one of Ayman Al Gilmore's old parties alternative budget and his government's budget today. He is obviously a me feiner, riding the Irish working class and feeding off old comrades wounds but then that's the story of Ireland, isn't it? The Labour party have no shame have they? They are an obvious gang of fatbarsturds, who people are stupid enough to vote for and are prime meat for a revolution! Anyway here's a summary: read full story / add a comment

Assembling at 1 pm on Saturday 12th October at the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin, to march to the GPO. The budget for 2014 is expected to take yet another €3 billion out of the economy, at a rate of two to one in favour of cuts over taxation. This will affect health, education, social protection and community services. It will not create one new job. Alternative sources of revenue exist: read full story / add a comment

Despite official enquiries into the Dublin/Monaghan Bombings, no satisfactory answers have ever been found as to who carried them out. Even though these Bombings caused the biggest loss of life of a single operation of the whole Troubles, garda investigations were wound up after three months—with no proper explanation of what had happened; no prosecutions were ever brought. read full story / add a comment

Joan burton minister for social protection has set up what has been called a new carrot and stick approach to the unemployed masses of ireland. The carrot is not suffficient ,and either is the stick for that matter, the carrot being jobbridge, and the stick being that social welfare can withhold your welfare for up to 63 days, and having the powers to reduce your social welfare payment..As far as i can see there is no new thinking on how to approach those who have lost their jobs,or are not adequately qualified or experienced to take up jobs.. Jobridge has been uncovered as a scam,to bolster up employers staff without expense, and can re-hire more job bridge workers as they please.Where is the incentive to employ people, take on paid work when job bridge is in the way of that. What employer is going to pay people to work when job bridge is for free? It is clear the government have not thought this through properly for whatever reason. Below is an article on this issue by Tom Boland. read full story / add a comment

In 2012 the attempt by the government to Quebec to introduce a 75% fee hike was defeated by the organisation of a mass student strike that lasted over 6 months. That fee increase was part of the global process of imposing the privatisation and commodification of education. Since the victory, organisers of the strike have been being doing speaking tours to aid the process whereby "youth and students everywhere are becoming increasingly conscious of the need to organize as a means to defend education as a social right". In September this tour reaches Ireland where we need to hear how a sustained and militant student movement that can win is built. read full story / add a comment
