Supporters of the campaign to have Shell site their refinery offshore and for the Irish govt to secure Irish natural resources for the people showed their solidarity with the three Erris fisherment who have been wrongly jailed. A large group of about forty protesters handed in a short letter (signed by them all) to the minister expressing outrage at the treatment of the three men. The Gardaí complained that the presence of such as a large group of people at the entrance of the building had health and safety implications, and tried to order those present to move, but it was poined out the health and safety implications of Shell's scheme for Mayo were a much greater threat to us all. read full story / add a comment

This morning cork shell to sea members staged a promenade and vigil along the Quays and on the two main bridges in the city centre. Few would disagree in or out of Lebanon that the attempt by Israel to occupy the country was defeated soundly. Little was achieved by the invasion except the killing of over a thousand people, the destruction of the country’s infrastructure and a consequent radicalisation of the population. Hizbullah came out of the war with its image enhanced and with the Shias, the largest section of the Lebanese population, supporting it to the hilt. read full story / add a comment

Yesterday the court at Belmullet was full to capacity with many standing as a number of cases related to the controversial Corrib gas project were heard. Protest at the Department of Justice, 94 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2 at 1PM on Friday July 13th in support of Pat O'Donnell, his son Johnathan O'Donnell, and Enda Carey, who were sentenced to prison yesterday by the judge in Belmullet District Court. They are alleged to have assaulted a Garda in October last year. The charge, which they deny, could not be backed up by any video evidence, nor could the injured Garda say for sure how he was injured or describe the exact circumstances of the alleged assault. Nevertheless, the judge found the three men guilty of assault purely on the evidence of other Gardaí who on duty that morning. Supporters will gather outside the Dept of Justice tomorrow at lunchtime to show solidarity with the men. read full story / add a comment |
