Simply we can describe the situation of the Gaza Strip as the worst of its kind since the Israeli occupation of Palestine in 1948, if you walk the streets of Gaza city you will be shocked seeing how miserable and harsh life the people of Gaza are facing, as a result of the Israeli daily aggressions and sever measures. read full story / add a comment

The union IMPACT brought a case on behalf of 91 civil servants under the European Directive on the protection of fixed-term workers, implemented as the Protection of Employees (Fixed Term Workers) Act 2003 in Ireland. The case demands of equality of treatment with comparable established colleagues and of extension of retrospective benefits to 2001, the date agreed to by the state as a signatory to the Directive, rather than 2003 when the Act was finally signed. read full story / add a comment

It has been alleged that Proinsias De Rossa, who is due to retire as MEP for Dublin at the next election, was involved in scuffle outside the Labour Party Meeting at Liberty Hall in Dublin last night. The meeting was to discuss the upcoming Lisbon Treaty referendum. Reports say that De Rossa tried to take a video camera away from someone who was filming him, in a public place, outside the meeting. In the scuffle he fell and while he was on the ground, somebody sat on him, it is claimed. Younger readers may not be aware of the the long political journey of Mr De Rossa, who was once a strong supporter of the IRA, and spent time in prison in the 1950's. read full story / add a comment

This year see’s the first (and hopefully last!) Miss UCD beauty pageant, sponsored by UCDSU ,alongside trashy tabloids The sun and News of the world. The first Miss UCD takes place on Thursday 17th April. The winner of the ‘competition’ will win automatic entry to Miss Ireland as well as winning beauty makeovers , clothes and a gym membership. Miss Ireland and hence Miss UCD bans all mothers, wives and women under 5’4 from entering. These sexist competitions have no place in Ireland and particularly in UCD. These types of competitions are demeaning and are an excuse for putting sexism on parade They encourage the idea that women should be seen as sex objects to be judged by men, as well as making women believe that to be desirable they have to conform to unrealistic types of ‘beauty’. read full story / add a comment

The purpose of this article (see below the video) is to provide further support to the statement upheld by politicians, academic and legal experts that the Lisbon Treaty is a constitution. The emphasis on this fact is vital because from this fact it follows that the Lisbon Treaty needs referendum not only in Ireland but in all of the 27 EU member states. Because the Lisbon Treaty a constitution, it is crucial to understand that no constitution ever permits the act of overthrowing it, i.e never allows the act of replacing it with another one without the permission of a country's citizens. Therefore the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty without referendums in the other 26 states, is a dictatorial power-grab over Europe. (Please see the document referred at the end of the article.) With this article we wish to call Ireland to Vote NO to Lisbon Treaty! Vote NO to a constitution that establishes a dictatorial federal regime with powers over all Europe. read full story / add a comment

Summary: Mordechai Vanunu, the Israeli whistleblower will be given a visa to live in Norway, initial reports from Norway suggest at present. Vanunu spent eighteen years in an Israeli prison for revealing that Israel has nuclear weaapons. For the past four years (since his release), he has lived under the most severe restrictions to his freedom. He is not allowed to travel freely, not leave Israel even to the occupied West Bank or Gaza, nor speak to foreigners. Norway's offer once again brings his name and fate to the attention of the conscience of the international community. read full story / add a comment
