international / anti-war / imperialism / news report Friday May 09, 2008 12:03 by CIA Watch Shannon
The following letter has been published in the Irish Times on 9th May 2008. This is a significant development, because the Gardai and the Irish Government authorities have clearly failed to carry out their duties towards prevention of the crimes of torture at Shannon airport. This however does not relieve the citizens of Ireland of their responsibilty to prevent torture. It is the moral and legal duty of all Irish citizens to take 'all neccessary means' to prevent the possible continuing use of Shannon airport by the CIA and the US military for the purpose of transporting prisoners for torture. read full story / add a comment

Respected commentator Liamy MacNally wrote an interesting column on the Corrib gas scheme in The Mayo News this week. He does a good job of getting to grips with the various strands of the conflict regarding the production pipeline, gas pressure, the history of the Glinsk proposal, and Minister Eamon Ryan's responsibilities. He also raises the leaked minuttes of an internal Shell meeting where the fact that the refinery had been denied planning permission (in 2002) and the intriguing response of company's executives to this setback. read full story / add a comment
