I am sitting in the olive groves at the little hut of a friend whose land is in the South of Jayyous. The fire is burning telling me that the family has been here this morning lovingly tending to the land. The sun is shining; it rays restoring some of the hope and energy taken from the community after yesterday’s demonstration. Walking here, I passed a family sitting under the shade of their olive trees having their lunch replenishing their bodies after working hard on their land. The land and the people are at ease. It is Shabbat and so the machinery of occupation, hydraulic excavators, multi terrain loaders and compactors “destroyers and usurpers, gnawing, biting, breaking, hacking and burning” their way through the land working to clear the area of the olive tress that are on the land of the farmers of Jayyus, are quiet and still. read full story / add a comment

Thought me and my friends were the only ones until you came on 5Live the other day. Never thought my generation would ever come with such a creative group. So long as you are not anti-Muslim, I'm with you. Standing up against faith based "justice" is brave and necessary. Thank you for your campaign. You have to win this for our children. These are only some of the thousands of messages we have received from people in Britain and across the world in support of One Law for All Campaign against Sharia Law in Britain since our launch on December 10, 2008 – International Human Rights Day. In less than a month, the campaign has mobilised the support of many well known personalities and organisations and gathered over 5,000 signatures. Since then, we have been busy organising for International Women's Day. read full story / add a comment

"But this is only the tip of the ice berg. The Israeli forces have begun to use civilians as human shields. According to Amnesty International Israeli forces occupy civilian houses and keep the civilians as hostages on the first floor, while they position their soldiers on the second floor; ensuring that any fire on the house (especially with anti-tank or RPG missiles) kills the civilians as well." read full story / add a comment

- Moore Institute, NUI Galway, Fri, 13 Feb. - Nuns’ Island Theatre, Fri. night, 13 Feb, & Sat. 14 Feb. The manifest deficiencies of the economic system that has dominated the world in recent decades make this an opportune time to consider alternatives. Where better to start than with an examination of the unorthodox ideas espoused by radical Irish men and women of the past? An ‘Irish Socialist Lives’ symposium offers an opportunity to do just that. read full story / add a comment

Iranian Secret Police arrested Jinous Sobhani, former secretary of the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC) and the Organization for the Defense of Mine Victims, and seized her address book, telephone and other work records on 14 January 2009. Shirin Ebadi, the 2003 Nobel Peace Laureate, is a co-founder of both groups. The DHRC, a leading independent Iranian group providing legal defense of human rights violations, has been closed since 22 December 2008, when Iranian Secret Police forced their way into the Center during a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Iranian Regime have claimed that the Center was not a legally registered organization, although numerous other non-registered organizations function in Iran. The DHRC’s application for registration was denied several years ago. read full story / add a comment

There are many ways to “light” a battle field. In Gaza, no such area exists anyway. There are just people’s hovels, holes and “homes.” Such as they are after years of blockade and bombardment by Israeli forces. The White phorpous is a terror weapon perfect for driving people away, “never to return.” The Zionist dream is and has always been for many, at least, to remove the native Arab population and posses all of “Greater Israel.” This inhuman weapon nicknamed “Willie Pete.” is perfect for the effort. When it comes into contact with human flesh it moves down toward the bone, tissues evaporate. Victims may survive for some time before vital organs are compromised, effecting death. Parents watch the agony and may be forced to end their children’s wild sufferings by shortening their lives in “other ways.” read full story / add a comment

C/o email list "Gaza Friends" from the FREE GAZA MOVEMENT http://www.freegaza.org/ The morgues of Gaza's hospitals are over-flowing. The bodies in their blood-soaked white shrouds cover the entire floor space of the Shifa hospital morgue. Some are intact, most horribly deformed, limbs twisted into unnatural positions, chest cavities exposed, heads blown off, skulls crushed in. Family members wait outside to identify and claim a brother, husband, father, mother, wife, child. Many of those who wait their turn have lost numerous family members and loved ones. Blood is everywhere. Hospital orderlies hose down the floors of operating rooms, bloodied bandages lie discarded in corners, and the injured continue to pour in: bodies lacerated by shrapnel, burns, bullet wounds. Medical workers, exhausted and under siege, work day and night and eac read full story / add a comment
