Carers and their loved ones who receive roll-over respite care in Cherryorchard Hospital have been informed by the HSE that the newly refurbished Beech Unit at Cherryorchard Hospital is to close indefintely. The management at the hospital have told Councillor Brid Smith that the closure of the Beech is due to staff shortages for the Summer months. However, they could not give any guarantees as to when it will reopen. Nurses who are taking annual leave and maternity leave are not being replaced. The HSE embargo on recruitment is once again seriously hurting patients receiving respite care and their families. read full story / add a comment ![]()

In this article Yassamine Mather writes about the mass demonstrations in cities across Iran. She points out that these demonstrations show the anger and frustration of the majority of Iranians with political Islam. Full text at link. Early on Saturday morning, the supreme leader congratulated Ahmadinejad, which was seen as official endorsement of the results. But by Sunday pm, under the pressure of impromptu demonstrations, he was forced to reverse this decision, and called on the council of guardians to investigate the other candidates’ complaints. By Monday June 15, with a massive show of force by the opposition - over a million demonstrators on the streets - he was instructing the council of guardians to call for a recount. By Tuesday there was talk of new elections. read full story / add a comment ![]()

This is a statement from the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Vahed Bus Company. This union has a long history of struggle for econnomic and civil rights. Here they make clear that there must be a struggle for the rights of all Iranians who have been oppressed. This article is supposed to be available on http://www.justiceforiranianworkers.org/ but that site is down at present. So I am posting it in full here. In line with the recognition of the labour rights, we request that June 26 Action Day - Justice for Iranian workers - to include the human rights of all Iranians who have been deprived of their rights. read full story / add a comment

Below is a copy of an email I recieved from Stevo... I've just been texted that the Solitaire is currently anchored off Donegal. This steps the need for people present on camp even higher. Subsequently anybody that can make it up there should try to do so. As I have been saying people are needed both to help run the camp and perform the actual actions. But they are needed NOW. Anybody with access to spare boats, could they please donate them now too. read full story / add a comment ![]()
