The footage for the first video, Shell to Sea : Loitering with intent near the Rossport Solidarity Camp, people's champion Margaretta D'Arcy investigates was shot on 29th June close to and at the rear of the Rossport Solidarity Camp, when the behemoth pipe-laying vessel, the Solitaire, was laying the pipe connecting Shell's Glengad compound and the gas head and when the camp was overtly and intimidatory policed with Gardai at the front and rear sandwiching the Shell to Sea activists and it was the latter melange of Guards and their black attired Public Order cohorts that the redoubable and much loved Margaretta D'Arcy confronted.

This afternoon seven Shell to Sea activists in kayaks visited the Toisa Independent, which supplies pipe to the Solitaire, a vessel used by Shell to lay the Corrib gas pipeline. The Solitaire, which left Broadhaven Bay (1) yesterday after laying the first section of pipe for the project, has been the target of several actions recently in the continual campaign against Shell. About 2,000 people attended the main rally, which was colourful, lively, loud -and a bit holy.

About 75 pro-choice demonstrators were as boisterous as the main rally passed them at the GPO.

It has emerged that Group 4 Security [G4S] a worldwide provider of private security and risk management services is be set to launch a bid to provide prison custody services equivalent to that of services already provided by officers of the Irish prison service at some Irish prison and detention centres. The global security corporation already operates a number of prisons and youth detention centers throughout the world especially in the UK. In the UK the firm provides detention services at a number of high profile London police stations.

There G4S police custody officers provide services similar to that of police officers including but not limited to photographing, fingerprinting, processing, feeding, restraining and the use of force against dangerous persons in custody. read full story / add a comment
