On the 22nd and 23rd of July the Irish Times published two articles, by Northern Editor, Gerry Moriarty reporting from Israel where he spent the best part of a week with a group of other Irish journalists embedded at the invitation of the Israeli Ministry of foreign-affairs, politicians, charity workers, community activists, religious, business and medical people and ordinary civilians.

Reading the articles his hosts must have been well pleased with their efforts to rehabilitate Israel’s tarnished image in the wake of its latest massacre in Gaza. Anyone familiar with Israel’s brutal subjugation of the Palestinian people would be forgiven for thinking that Mr. Moriarty must have enjoyed a little too much of his hosts hospitality before writing the articles.

With every disaster a new opportunity emerges. Respectable capitalists swoop in quickly– operating in complete legality but equally willing shake down as many people for as much money as possible. PwC has employed the amazing hubris and grotesque efficiency typical of capitalism. No carcass to slim; no pocket book too picked.

Hi,

CAFT Ireland launched the country's first ever 'Fur Farm Exposé Tour' on Saturday 4th July. This was to highlight the recent undercover exposé on Irish fur farms, which can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/naracampaigns

We travelled to every county that has a fur farm, tabled and leafleted in the major town near each farm, and protested outside all 5 mink farms - something that has never been done before, and something that we pledge to keep doing on a regular basis. read full story / add a comment

We announce the Launch of a campaign of opposition to the so called "Riveria" apartments close to seaside area in Bray. We intend to maximise the number of objections against any development proposals and build a grassroots movement based on "people power". We are also opposed to further slot machines in the area which may lead to serious addiction problems and can be a source of trouble within families. We will strongly oppose any plans for development in the one scenic area of Bray left. Instead our campaign believes investment should be concentrated in the town centre. Some of our other aims include campaigning for the re-instatement of the Blue Flag for our Beach which we had in 1991. We also demand greater transparency and accountability in the planning process. read full story / add a comment

Amnesty reports on the situation in Nicaragua where pregnant women are being refused necessary medical treatment. This has led to an increase in maternal deaths. Full story at link.

Nicaragua’s total ban on abortions is endangering the lives of girls and women, denying them life-saving treatment, preventing health professionals from practicing effective medicine and contributing to an increase in maternal deaths across the country, concludes Amnesty International in a new report issues on Monday.

According to official figures, 33 girls and women have died in pregnancy this year as compared to 20 in the same period last year. Amnesty International believes these figures are only a minimum as the government itself has acknowledged that the number of maternal deaths is under-recorded.

The 2nd referendum on the lisbon treaty will be held shortly because we voted wrong the first time and the political elite of Europe are not happy with us Irish.

“They are bloody fools,” “They have been stuffing their faces at Europe’s expense for years and now they dump us in the s***.” Nicolas Sarkozy told aides, according to le Canard Enchaîné weekly after the No vote - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/arti...6.ece .
And this comes from the man who spends £600 pounds a day of tax payers money for flowers for his Palace - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/arti...7.ece

So why would Ireland want to give more power to Europe by voting YES when there is people like this in Power?? Ireland is corrupt enough as it is!
