In 1982, a close friend of Kurdish freedom fighter Salah Ameydi was captured by the Mukhabarat, the Iraqi Secret Police. They brought him back to his village, and seized his wife and eight-month-old son. The new parents were then tied up and made to watch as their baby was burned to death in front of them with a hot iron. When the agents were finished with the child, they forced the husband to watch as his wife was brutally raped by four Iraqi soldiers. The husband was then dragged off to Abu Ghraib and tortured for years on end as a “political prisoner.” read full story / add a comment

In 1974, Spain, Portugal and Greece were run by dictatorships and together with the Soviet domination of Eastern Europe, democracy in Europe was an endangered specie. By joining the EU, countries have strenghthened their democratic structures and the same opportunity is available to Turkey. In recent times, the human rights situation has improved and the repression of the culture of the minority Kurdish population has been eased. read full story / add a comment

When a state is determined to pursue war, and all forms of indirect symbolic protest actions have failed to sway politicians to halt their imperialist aggression, the only remaining option is direct action by the working class. One option is a general strike by workers that can effect the production and transpiration of military capital, that is the materials essential for the war machine. The other is to deprive the military of the labor it needs to fight the war. read full story / add a comment

And your telling me Ireland does not support the war in Iraq Bertie !!! Yeah right. The growing anger amongst Assyrians is leading to greater calls for Kurdish withdrawal not just from recently occupied villages but the over 250 other villages in northern Iraq held by Kurds. Another Assyrian activist noted "These villages constitute the Assyrian heartland and should form the very nucleus of a future Assyrian local self-administrative area needed to protect Assyrian survival in any future Iraq. For Assyrians to survive and thrive in the new Iraq, such areas need to be preserved as an Assyrian sanctuary- free from threat and intimidation." read full story / add a comment

The power of angry propaganda is that it rewrites history through the victimization of peace-loving peoples. Such is the case of Christian Assyrians now living in the Middle East. They have and continue to endure butchery and abuse at the hands of Arab despots. Consequently, they now live in a perpetual diaspora such as the Jewish people suffered for hundreds of years before the formation of the State of Israel in 1948. While the pro-Arab Western media largely ignores their voices and ancient heritage, it is the belief of Christian Assyrians that “Israelis have a superior claim to Jerusalem” over that of Yasser Arafat’s Palestinians. read full story / add a comment
