Something for people to consider during a irksome Recession and when vulnerabilities multiply, and people become further ostracised:- 'Where is the Life we have lost living? Where is the wisdom we have lost in Knowledge? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information? In the past, I have written about a treasure trove of information much under utilised for parents, for individuals, for children, for the elderly concerned about the future, and for students. It is the EU office in Dawson Street. This is adjacent to the Royal Irish Academy, and St. Anne's Church which is also a haven for people with time on their hands and a curious mind. What can we, the plain people of Ireland, contribute to the Theorists, Government politicians, the Bankers, the professions, the economists - to those who have constructed NAMA. These are the people we must learn to trust and if this is so, we the plain people of Ireland must be able to contribute our views, in a collective way, as part of the people grassroots press. Addiction, Fear, Shyness, drug take and why, those who stand back absorbed in shyness, those who will not participate at school - the student who hates reading out, the student hates going to school, the student who could be helped if only someone knew..........In England people had mentors....and personally I think this is a great idea. Personal Reflections of illness and the Irish system MRSA and its impact on people, on families........Are we negligent? It is not acceptable for our hospitals to be plagued with a disease that is in effect a silent killer and if it fails to kill you leaves you a victim for life of health system that will eventually destroy you. For people with long term illness, the lack of multi-disciplinary medics and an over abundance of management/staff, cleaners etc., the hospitals do not get cleaned as used to be the case. read full story / add a comment

As I watch with admiration the grass root activists in Helligendmm, Germany, yesterday - the young students protesting against world poverty and being cordoned off by heavy handed police. The year was 1993 or perhaps 1994, I lived in Zimbabwe and the past time that I most enjoyed was horse riding in the Veld near Sunset. On this occasion....I was being brave. I had learned to canter so it was time to jump. An arena, an enthusiasm, the taste of speed and miscalculation and there was change, I went over the horse and under the horse. Outcome: private emegency ambulance - a team who I will never know who most likely saved my life. There was only one elderly man as Neurosugeon in Zimbabwe at that time. From there life became a pilgrim path of exploration and many bumps and turns on the road. Welcome to Brain Awareness Week. There is a very saying. Come progress, come poverty. During the last census in Ireland, it was spoken about in the Joe Duffy Liveline. It outlined the wealth and the illusion of the everlasting Tiger but people doing the census forms told Joe Duffy of the poverty they experienced in many houses on their rounds. Two weeks ago I was walking with my dog on the Canal, off Baggot Street, when a lady in distress sitting on a park bench crying - i stopped spoke to her and listened intently to her story. The lady told me come October 10th at 10.00 p.m. the Sherriff was coming on behalf of the landlord with an order of ejection. It intrigued me that the word 'EVICtion.....is not being used now. I took some particulars off the lady and made no promises. Two days later I met a barrister friend of mine. He asked me how long she lived in her flat. I said 27 years. All I feel at this time is about the adage ' walking in the moccasins' of another. Do many of us really remember the 1980's? I do. I emigrated with my then husband to England (we hadn't the qualifications for the US. Both he and I worked in the building industry, for large companies - M.F.N. (liquiddation) but one of the big 9 in the 1970's. Then the Gallagher's Abbey. It was rough one day to see all staff lose their jobs as the construction marketed faltered further in the early 1980's. Land banks existed but planning permission for sites in places like Yellow Walls in Portmarnock were at log jam as Governments changed. I am forever grateful to people like Michael O'Leary and their foresight for Ryanair. It meant we had left Ireland but it was possible to come home and frequently. We brought new friends home. This would not have been possible in the Monopolised Aer Lingus challenged by O'Leary. read full story / add a comment

Where is the integration in policy..........Who understands and who really cares? The areas include social, community, education, health, the thread runs through society......even to the mentality of people driving cars and flying planes.....Yes, the big one is Stress - Anxiety - and Depression it is said 25 % of people killed in RTA's are in fact Suicides. Let's get real. Integration, co-operation, rehabilitative disciplines and teams to work on say people with mental health and neurological provlsion complicated by Chronic Fatigue syndrome while at the same time ensure that people are sufficiently alert and aware to physical conditions like cancer... As a person with many disabilities I have spent over three years writing via net for broadband........all I end up is paying for broadband since 2004, then the 1892 account t that ran tadjacent and my own account.......was running up a bill, on the basis that I had no broadbank. I write emails because I am phone phobic and limited to certain tasks a day otherwise it is confusion and I advised Disability section broadband all about these criteria. Now I am cancelled with aq bill. I lose out on the rent change paid by government....... All I asked was that a service man put in the equipment as my intellectual abilities make it difficult!!!! But no........Service is Irish style, lots of advertising and no action or no thought. Has anyone else fallent into trap............ read full story / add a comment

'Knowledge is no load'........Today Knowledge flounders in vanity by revelations of a woman who forms the centre stage in Irish politics. Money is the core ingredient of motive......entertainment, dress, holidays, no divorce because after all that would involve the judiciary deciding how to allocated funds......a deletion of power!!!! Remember: The bus pass was a great populist move but as we moved into the pre-ordained capitalist route, privatisation will no doubt end this. Yes, the 1970's, a woman could marry into a farm and the husband could leave it to the son.....and her fate could be the county home But does anyone ask about Divorce, the fact that there is no clean break, the fact it is 50/50, the fact that when a person dies, their spouse is notified and within 6 months can make a claim on their estate..... What about the 2nd bite of the Cherry.....The truth is there is one rule for the rich ......... and a completely different one for the ordinary person. The trend in Ireland is to leave the house with wife, contributing to men living in one bed flats and in some cases homeless.
