The City Of Derry Airport is expected to be the first in Europe to officially ban controversial CIA flights transporting terror suspects to secret prisons, it emerged today.
The publicly-owned airport confirmed it is working out the practicalities of an ``anti-rendition'' policy after discussions with Amnesty International.

At the minute the practicalities of this are being looked at by council officers with a view to bringing a motion before the council - I obviously hope we can do that

On parts of the continent and in the UK, garden allotments are popular- if you live in a flat or don't have access to a garden it's a great way to grow your own veggies, get more self- sufficient and keep money out of the pockets of big supermarkets. In the UK they cost anything from £16-£50 a year to rent.
It will not be possible for much longer to transport food from the other side of the planet due to the rising cost of oil and gas, and besides this is not environmentally sustainable. In addition, harvests are failing or producing less due to chaotic climate change. As a result the cost of food is and will continue to climb.

The age old-adage that nobody celebrates quite like the Irish rang true this weekend. As is common during Irish festivals a large proportion of the population chose the local pub as the most appropriate venue to celebrate our patron saint. However, reports of over two hundred arrests relating to drink driving and eight fatalities on our roads this weekend leads this writer to question why in this day and age do we still refuse to follow the rules and ask is it not time we started to celebrate a little less haphazardly and a little more sensibly? read full story / add a comment

We can speculate on alternative scenarios that may have arose if Hitler had won WW2 or JFK had not been shot in Dallas or Cantona had not attacked a spectator with a kung fu kick.

But the most important question we must speculate about is the great "what if" of our times.

This is what I think might have happened: read full story / add a comment

While America leads the world in insularism and denial, Australia is the world leader in complacency and apathy. No cultural equivalent for the Oz expression, “she’ll be right, mate”, exists anywhere – notwithstanding the variation of “who gives a shit?” Today, non-involvement is proving to be a very costly cultural habit. America has become the world’s most hated nation and will soon attract very real consequences for its actions, one of which is the acquisition of Australia as a colonial trophy. Australia remains an international laughing stock under the servile leadership of lackey prime minister, John Howard; Aussies are experiencing their eleventh year under the rule of the most slavish, gutless, lying, duplicitous, cringing, government on record. No other leader in world history has displayed the servility and cowardice of John Howard. When America says jump, the despicable little coward, Howard, says how high, boss! read full story / add a comment

Survivors of Bhopal Gas Disaster, the world's worst industrial disaster, are again on hunger strike in India in search of justice, more than 22 years after the gas leak. This morning, on the 13th day of their hunger strike, the police swooped down early in the morning with the intention of taking them to hospital and force-feeding them. read full story / add a comment

The last Socialist, he called himself but now we all know, to the contrary of our lives and our civil liberties, that this is not the case. read full story / add a comment
