This Monday 17th November 8pm at the O'Flaherty Theatre NUIG, leader of the Green Party, John Gormley TD is to speak at the PDS. As this was only very recently organised I'm not sure what the motion or topic is for the night. I'm not even sure if there is anyone organised to debate with John Gormley. Journey with the Pit Stop Ploughshares through the courts. 9am Sharp: gather at the "Spire", GPO, O'Connell Street for solidarity vigil with anti-war resisters in jail and before the courts. Please wear black, posters and signs will be provded by the defendants. 9.30am: procession to the Four Courts. A group of about 12 people gathered at a rain swept corner of Fitzwilliam Square. We were a little late when the big black coffin finally arrived bearing the names of the five people on hunger strike in Greece. Initially the idea of a coffin was thought to be a little morbid by some, but it was agreed, that unfortunately death is more of an inevitability if the Greek state continue their deliberate persecution of these individuals. The second European Social Forum (ESF) is taking place in Paris this week. Last year it took place in Italy and it was from the peoples assembly at that ESF that the decision was taken to organise the February 15th International day of mobilisations against the War on Iraq. Hundreds of thousands of trade unionists, socialists, anti-capitalists, NGOs, peace activists, community groups and concerned citizens are meeting in Paris to discuss opposition to neo-liberalism, privatisation, war, environmental destruction and racism. There will also be a huge demonstration in Paris on Saturday for a Europe of social rights and without war. read full story / add a comment
