Niall Farrell of the Galway Alliance Against War is to be arrested on Friday, 1st of August on his return from abroad and sent to Limerick Prison for his involvement in a peace protest with Margaretta D'Arcy last September on the runway at Shannon airport. In June they were found guilty of having "interfered with the proper use" of Shannon airport and given a two week suspended sentence and what approximates to a €100 fine. Both refused to pay the fine or sign a so-called peace bond and Ms D'Arcy has since been imprisoned for her failure to comply with the Ennis District Court's ruling. read full story / add a comment

Deeply concerned and outraged at the continued use of Guantanamo as a US torture site, the ongoing Israeli collective punishment of Gaza and the facilitation of US troops and CIA torture flights through Shannnon Warport, members of the public, activists from Galway Food Not Bombs and the IPSC joined the Galway Alliance Against War protest at the Liam Mellows statue in Eyre Square this afternoon. Unfortunately, Rhuhel Ahmed, the British citizen who spent two years in the torture camp after being kidnapped with two of his friends whilst attending a wedding in Pakistan, could'nt attend. Fortunately, some 140 people attended including Michael D. Higgins, Galway City Councillors; Niall O' Brolchain, sisters, Catherine and Collette Connolly Billy Cameron and writers, Fred Johnson, Margaretta D'Arcy and Rita Anne Higgins. read full story / add a comment

Former Taoiseach, President and founding leader of Fianna Fail, the late Eamon de Valera, will be the principal speaker at a unique Easter Commemoration this coming Sunday to be held at 1 pm in Eyre Square, Galway. The Galway Alliance Against War is going to host what it is describing as the “True Fianna Fail Easter Commemoration”, which will coincide with the Fianna Fail wreath laying ceremony at Liam Mellows statue. read full story / add a comment |
