Hi, CAFT Ireland launched the country's first ever 'Fur Farm Exposé Tour' on Saturday 4th July. This was to highlight the recent undercover exposé on Irish fur farms, which can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/naracampaigns We travelled to every county that has a fur farm, tabled and leafleted in the major town near each farm, and protested outside all 5 mink farms - something that has never been done before, and something that we pledge to keep doing on a regular basis. read full story / add a comment

***Press Release*** Misrepresenting Animal Rights: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The National Animal Rights Association staged another protest outside the Pearl Brasserie, on Saturday 12th July. We stayed there for over 2hours, had no hassle whatsoever on the night, and received a lot of support from passers-by. No Gardai were called, and the protest went without incident. We have already gotten 4 restaurants to stop serving this dish of cruelty, and we won't stop until we get a total ban on the import of foie gras in Ireland. If you'd like to get involved in our campaigns, or know of any restaurant not on our list that is serving foie gras, please get in touch. read full story / add a comment

PRESS RELEASE - HUMAN RIGHTS SCANDAL IN AUSTRIA Non-governmental organisations express concern about what may be a case of state repression of social activism. On 21st May 2008 at 6 a.m., heavily armed police officers from an elite unit stormed 21 homes and the offices of a number of non-governmental organisations in Austria. Breaking their way in, the masked police surrounded frightened civilians in their beds at gun point. Ten people were arrested and have been held in custody without specific charge since that day. Despite the statement by the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior that "The measures taken by the police (.) were in no way directed against animal welfare or animal welfare organisations", the removal of computers, documents and other assets has effectively crippled some of the organisations involved. read full story / add a comment

The Department of Agriculture is currently drafting legislation to update the Animal Welfare Bill, which will be brought to the Government for approval in the coming months. Although the summary draft of the bill focuses primarily on aspects of farming, such as the control and eradication of animal diseases, and the slaughter and disposal of animals/animal by-products, it also seeks to update the Protection of Animals Act 1911 on cruelty-related offences. It will also include provisions to deal with inspections for specified animals and the conditions in which they are kept (for example, pet shops). read full story / add a comment

On Saturday 17th May, members of the National Animal Rights Association organised a demonstration outside the Pearl Brasserie restaurant. This was in protest of the fact that they serve foie gras, a so-called 'delicacy' that is produced so barbarically, it is illegal to farm ducks and geese for it in Ireland. Within minutes of the protest starting, activists were hosed by members of staff, and threatened by the owner (which resulted in the Gardai having to be called). Undeterred by what happened, activists returned to the Pearl Brasserie, on Saturday 31st May. It was a very visual and effective protest, which went by without incident. A short video clip was taken, which includes footage of the owner of the restaurant, Sebastien Masi (the one who threatened us), recording us with a video-camera. Have a look! Also, below are some facts on foie gras, for anyone who isn't familiar with the issue. read full story / add a comment |
