Press accounts published in Ireland over the past decade, however, have linked the company to an influence-peddling scandal that rocked the Irish political establishment during the 1990s. Moreover, the man at the center of the controversy has had past ties to Carlyle Group, an American equity investment firm that is stacked with high-ranking former U.S. government officials with checkered careers. read full story / add a comment

In a recent article in the Irish Times, Young Green Party chairperson Barra Rowntree expressed his disappointment that the large Dublin Gaza protest had been disrupted by "a small group of fanatics". Speaking after attending the protest, Roantree said the fact some people had used the opportunity to burn the Israeli flag and dress children in military fatigues was "not only unhelpful, but utterly contradictory to the aims of the world peace movement": "Those who burn flags and glorify violence only fan the flames of the tragic conflict in the Middle East." read full story / add a comment ![]()

Drawing the thread through some recent news stories of oil corruption, climate chaos, fuel poverty, and doing what the so-called ‘mainstream’ media will not do, linking them together, most pertinently linking them with the continuing Corrib gas controversy. In a recent Irish Independent article Kevin Myers blamed RTE for "hate mail, death threats, and abusive graffiti on my car, concluding with my home having to be given round-the-clock Garda protection" Kevin says this resulted from Joe Duffy’s Liveline whipping up the “mob” "after (as I admitted within a day and repeat now) was [sic] a very poor article of mine". Major Myarse, as Kev is known affectionately, does not reveal why he was persona non-grata with the “mob”. Was it opposition to poor syntax, bad grammar, or irritation at Kev not letting facts get in the way of his opinions (or of his apology, which took two days to appear, not one)? Not the latter, we can be sure. Otherwise the mob would be scribbling its criticism on Kev's car every day of the week and Kev, like Salman Rushdie, would require permanent ”round-the-clock Garda protection”. read full story / add a comment ![]()

As you might know, the last days saw history being made in those small little ways. the 60th anniversary of D Day in Normandie saw leaders of the World assemble and salute the veterans and honour the dead of operation Overlord and remember the causes for which they fought and died. As you know the Pontiff John Paul 2 met with President Bush and was very critical of the relations between the West (both winners and losers of WW2) and the rest of the world. As you know the Cathedral of Barcelona was occupied by 1600 non regularised workers mostly of the Islamic Faith. read full story / add a comment

Europe is following the US in the snoop technology of the century. They will be supplying their citizens a health indentity card with an embedded microchip. Sounds good, but wait there's a catch. You will be able to be tracked everywhere you go, and have a brand with you almost like the cow. Plans are to eventually insert these into your beautiful body. Could this be the mark of the beast talked about in the Christian Bible? Could this be the final way to keep track of all of us without employing so many security guards, and policemen? Could this be a method of marking certain types of people as they did in the Holocaust? Please read the story from telegraph.co, and decide if this is what you want? read full story / add a comment

34 die as US missiles hit wrong target Luke Harding in Halabja, northern Iraq Monday March 24, 2003 The last thing that Omar Mohammed Saeed heard was the sound of the American missile plunging through the roof of his dormitory. It was 12.30 at night, and Mr Saeed and his fellow peshmerga fighters had been fast asleep. The laser-guided bomb reduced the compound where Mr Saeed had been staying into a tomb of pulverised concrete and metal. There was no chance of escape. "We don't understand. Why did America do this? My uncle was a kind man who would never have hurt anybody," his nephew, Sadar Mohammed, said yesterday. "This makes us love Saddam Hussein rather than America," he added. read full story / add a comment

Jimmy Breslin reports that General Mike Jackson, commander of the British forces in the invasion of Iraq, was an officer of the Parachute Regiment and participated in the Bloody Sunday Massacre in Derry in 1972. Jackson comes out of Sandhurst, was in the intelligence services and was with the British Army torture centre in Belfast. Breslin concludes that Jackson is now doing what he does best: attacking defenseless people. Thus Ireland's role is made clear: a laboratory for imperialism. read full story / add a comment

The Institute for Policy Studies has published a report analyzing the relationship between the US and the nations of the Security Council and those in Bush's non-UN coalition. They examine for each country economic, political and military leverage. They conclude that it is not a 'coalition of the willing'. They find evidence of coercion, of bullying and bribery. And all of these govts. are opposed to their own people. These bribed nations represent barely a tenth of the worlds population. Far more impressive are those nations that have stood up to the US bully tactics. read full story / add a comment

The two most urgent American responses to the attacks on the country on Sept. 11, have not yet been carried out. Those required responses are to push through a peaceful solution to the Middle East conflict, which otherwise is headed toward the general religious war conflagration the conspirators of Sept. 11 wanted; and to take measures to stop the collapse of the U.S. and world economy. read full story / add a comment
