It is truly ironic that the EU Commission is here in Ireland urging Irish voters to vote Yes to the Lisbon Treaty under the guise of jobs and the economy, while it is allowing new member states, like Poland, to provide massive financial bribes to companies to move their operations out of Ireland. - The EU Commission could not care less about Irish jobs. They just want Lisbon passed so they can get more power for themselves at the expense of the people. says McKenna read full story / add a comment

Former MEP, Patricia McKenna has accussed the EU Commission head, Barroso of illegal interference in Irish referendum, she said "its conveniently opportune that less than two weeks before Irish people vote on the Lisbon treaty the Commission announces that it proposes to give €15m in aid to help former Dell computer workers find new jobs. , Barroso is head of the EU Institution that will gain most power if the treaty is ratified, he should stay out of the debate and respect the existing EU treaties until such time as they are changed”. He is abusing his position and this it quite unacceptable in a supposedly free and democratic society.” read full story / add a comment

The Green Party’s decision to support the Lisbon Treaty and backtrack on its long standing campaign for a more democratic EU will be more of a hindrance than a help to the Yes side. The voters would currently not buy a used car from the Green Party let alone a rejected treaty. The party leadership has shown that once part of the so-called ‘accepted political establishment’ they turn their back on their principles read full story / add a comment

the Government is engaged in a cynical exercise of political manipulation. Speaking on behalf of the People’s Movement, which successfully campaigned against ratification of the Lisbon Treaty in last year’s referendum, McKenna said “these so-called ‘Legal Guarantees’ on the Lisbon Treaty are nothing more than an exercise in creative manipulation designed to mislead the public. This fact was even recognised by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin who after EU foreign ministers met in Luxembourg recently, said, “The impetus from other member states is to be helpful, creative and try to resolve these issues … We are quietly confident and hopeful,” “What the Minister really means is that Legal guarantees on the Lisbon Treaty are just a creative way of giving people a feeling of legal certainty which does not and cannot exist.” Said McKenna read full story / add a comment ![]()

Independent Euro candidate and former MEP Patricia McKenna is calling for the Green Party to withdraw from Government. Her call is being backed by former Green Party Councillors Chris O'Leary and Betty Doran. They are appealing to the Green Party to do what is needed for Ireland by pulling out of government, thus causing a general election. If the Greens stand behind what Fianna Fáil is currently trying to do, they will be participating in economic treason. If they allow NAMA - which has the taxpayers riding to the rescue of banks that were bankrupted with the help of Fianna Fáil leaders and their cronies - to be voted through, there will be no going back and the people of this nation will be footing the bill for generations to come. The Government has no mandate to go ahead with NAMA. The only democratic action would be to ask the people what options they prefer to take to help address the current crisis. read full story / add a comment

Press release from the European Federation of Public Sector Unions outlining some of the dangers inherent in a proposed Bolkestein Directive "compromise" between the Socialist Group in the EU Parliament and the European People's Party. The terms of which would appear to bring most public services, for instance utilities, social services and water provision, under the remit of the directive. Perhaps someone from Labour could comment on whether there is substance to their analysis? read full story / add a comment
