In her first conference call with journalists since becoming chair of the Kimberley Process (KP), US Ambassador, Gillian A. Milovanovic has moved to limit the scope of any reform of the KP definition of a “conflict diamond”. On Wednesday 23rd June, Irishman Tommy Donnellan took part in a protest outside the meeting of Kimberley Process Conference in the Hotel Dan Panorama in Tel Aviv. The conference is meeting to discuss the global trade in “conflict” or “blood diamonds”, and the protest was organised to highlight the double standard in the Kimberly Process which bans the trade in rough diamonds that fund human rights abuses but facilitates the far more lucrative trade in cut and polished diamonds that also fund such abuses – including Israel’s occupation of Palestine. During the protest, Mr Donnellan was questioned by Israeli police and had his passport and phone numbers taken down. read full story / add a comment ![]()

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) wishes to express its solidarity with the 'Freedom Flotilla', consisting of nine ships, that is currently assembling in the Mediterranean Sea prior to attempting to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza in the final week of May. Among the ships heading towards Gaza is the 1,200 tonne Irish cargo ship, the MV Rachel Corrie, which is owned by the Free Gaza Movement. The ship is carrying a cargo of cement and other vital reconstruction materials for the people of Gaza. read full story / add a comment

Little was resolved at an amicable meeting last week between animal action group ALiberation and the South African Ambassador to Ireland, HEMs DPS Jana, about South Africa’s lifting of the ban to kill elephants. Anti-War Ireland, a broad-based national alliance of anti-war groups, is organising the demonstration that will meet George W. Bush when he lands at Shannon airport on Friday evening, June 25th. This demonstration will assemble at 7pm in Shannon town centre before marching to the airport. Anti-War Ireland is also conjointly organising, with AmBush2004 (a coalition of grassroots groups), a parade for peace from Bunratty to Shannon the following day. Assembing at 12pm. Anti-War Ireland has appointed the following media panel for the Bush protests. PRESS RELEASE WHY DOES THE BBC IGNORE AFRICAN WARS Tools For Solidarity and the Black Youth Network are commemorating African Liberation Day outside the Bedford St offices of the BBC on Tuesday 25 May from 5 – 6pm. We will be asking the BBC when it is going to start reporting the 22 ongoing forgotten wars of Africa. There will be some street theatre from 5pm and at 5.30pm there will be a 3 minute silence for the forgotten dead. There will be 22 gravestones representing 22 ongoing conflicts in Africa.
