At our meeting today, the members of the Glasgow branch of the Republican Prisoners’ Action Group agreed unanimously to support the repatriation to the Free State of Noel Maguire who is the only remaining Irish political prisoner still incarcerated in an English jail. We are concerned for the health and well being of Noel who despite having family in the 26 Counties has been refused repatriation. read full story / add a comment

Following on from a protest in Newry a fortnight ago, a large protest was held in Derry City on Saturday, 16th December. The month of December traditionally represents the prisoners' month, and this protest - organised by the Republican Prisoners' Action Group (RPAG) - was in support of the demands of the Republican POWs currently on protest in Maghaberry Gaol. A Cork –based Dairy farmer has admitted that animals are routinely beaten by farmers in an Irish Times article written by Agriculture Correspondent sean Mac Connell on Tuesday last.10-11-06. This revelation of cruelty was made whilst referring to a German made immobiliser system which he uses, he said’ ‘I am a dairy farmer and I treat my animals well. In fact this machine will prevent animals being beaten when they are being trained to be milked’ Mr Hayes said many farmers had responded to the advert, which he placed in the Farmers Journal seeking agents to sell these devices. read full story / add a comment

Ógra Shinn Féin last weekend claimed back Omagh British army base by erecting an Irish national flag at the front entrance to the base. The action was part of a demilitarisation protest held at the base as a part of an Ógra Shinn Fein national demilitarisation protest. Young people from throughout the 32 counties of Ireland and representatives from the troops of movement, the Wolfe Tone society and the SLP also travelled from England for the weekend. It was the fifth annual demilitarisation protest and according to Ógra chairperson in west Tyrone, Barry McNally was held to ‘Claim Victory on the issue of British demilitarisation’ in the county Tyrone Town. read full story / add a comment
