In May of this year a father of four was jailed for two weeks for contempt of orders made in family law proceedings brought by his wife in the Circuit Court. His habeas corpus application was successful after Justice Smith in the High Court commented that the manner in which he was jailed contained "worrying features". He was freed on condition that he initiate Judicial Review proceedings to resolve the important issues raised. read full story / add a comment

Sinn Féin Natural Resources spokesperson Martin Ferris TD has called on people to support solidarity protests against Shell facilities across Ireland in the wake of further clashes and reports of assaults by Gardaí on protestors at the Bellanaboy site. A public meeting will be held in response to the latest allocation of exploration licenses in the Donegal, Slyne and Erris Basins. Donegal citizens are angry that licenses for their offshore natural resources have been given to multinational companies without any consultation and with very little benefit for the County. On Sept. 1st, a lewd comment was left on www.Rate-Your-Solicitor.com about a Dublin based barrister, Jayne Maguire, who rang John Gill, P.R.O. of the Victims of the Legal Profession, to ask him to remove the comment. She explained to him that a male colleague had left this comment about her. When John said that he had no control over the website, Ms Maguire initiated a defamation suit against John through McCann FitzGerald Solicitors, who told John he may face imprisonment if he does not have the offensive material removed as per a High Court injunction issued by Judge Michael Hanna. read full story / add a comment |
