On Wednesday 23rd June, Irishman Tommy Donnellan took part in a protest outside the meeting of Kimberley Process Conference in the Hotel Dan Panorama in Tel Aviv. The conference is meeting to discuss the global trade in “conflict” or “blood diamonds”, and the protest was organised to highlight the double standard in the Kimberly Process which bans the trade in rough diamonds that fund human rights abuses but facilitates the far more lucrative trade in cut and polished diamonds that also fund such abuses – including Israel’s occupation of Palestine. During the protest, Mr Donnellan was questioned by Israeli police and had his passport and phone numbers taken down. read full story / add a comment

On Saturday 19th June 2010, the Annual General Meeting of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) elected Freda Hughes as its new Chairperson. The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) will be hosting a press conference at 3pm tomorrow, Monday 7th June, in the Central Hotel with the five Irish prisoners from the MV Rachel Corrie. The Rachel Corrie was hijacked at sea yesterday by Israeli forces, and all her passengers are due to be deported from Israel tomorrow morning, and the Irish deportees are due to arrive in Dublin airport at 11.20am tomorrow morning. There will be a welcoming committee to meet them and press conference to follow at 3pm in The Central Hotel, Exchequer Street, Dublin 2. Also today, the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign issued a statement refuting various Israeli accusations and propaganda talking points that have been circulating over the past two days. read full story / add a comment

Irish neutrality and sovereignty are being violated by the active recruitment of young Irishmen into the British Army in Moyross, according to local Sinn Féin Councillor Maurice Quinlivan. He said it was disgraceful that this was being facilitated by a jobs club totally funded by the Irish taxpayer. read full story / add a comment

The SpunOut.ie national youth organisation are today calling on young people to take a stand when it comes to ongoing job losses and the cuts being experienced in key health, education, transport and community services. Last weekend saw a protest in Newry in support of the besieged people of Gaza. The protest took place at a number of venues around Newry outside shopping and market areas. “Little more than a year ago the Army of the state of Israel invaded the small area of Gaza and killed over 1400 men women and children. They have been surrounded since and under siege, unable to leave. They have had to resort to tunnelling into Egypt and smuggling basic food stuffs and medicines. We just thought that we had to start a campaign to remind people locally of their plight” said Patsy Doyle, who organised the protest. read full story / add a comment

(CAIRO) Gaza Freedom March hunger strikers released yesterday a statement to the world community at the steps of the Egyptian Syndicate of Journalists where they have congregated for the past week due to Egypt's refusal to allow them into Gaza. They renewed their commitment to the values of freedom for Palestine and appealed for a continued struggle until justice is achieved. (CAIRO) Gaza Freedom Marchers yesterday, 1st January 2010, approved a declaration aimed at accelerating the global campaign for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israeli Apartheid. Roughly 1400 activists from 43 countries converged in Cairo on their way to Gaza to join with Palestinians marching to break Israel's illegal siege. They were prevented from entering Gaza by the Egyptian authorities. As a result, the Freedom Marchers remained in Cairo. They staged a series of nonviolent actions aimed at pressuring the international community to end the siege as one step in the larger struggle to secure justice for Palestinians throughout historic Palestine.
