Exporters have begun assembling 2,900 cattle for the first live export vessel destined for Libya on Wednesday next. All breeds except Friesians are being sought for Live export to Libya according to David Hunter of Murphy Hunter International Livestock in Cork. The Vessel arriving from Ceuta, the Al Mahmoud Express will have 2,900 young dairy bulls loaded from Monday at Waterford port to travel to Tripoli, loading alone may take 48 hours. AFAR is delighted in The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) stance in updating the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 to ban any dog docked after this date from being shown in Northern Ireland. The Anti Eviction Taskforce (AET) have written to all Government Ministers across all political parties on behalf of all distressed mortgage holders in Ireland today, delivering a mandate to bring a motion before the Dáil to ban eviction in Ireland. This letter will arrive on the desks of all Ministers on February 4th 2013. To explain the logic behind this mandate: The Government and Financial institutions continue to ignore the issue of distressed mortgages, which is resulting in much family distress, family break-up and, in some cases, suicide. While, as yet, eviction is not an everyday occurrence, it is only a matter of time before eviction becomes common place. This threat, along with the inaction by both the Government and Financial Institutions to devise credible resolution is disabling distressed mortgage holders and resulting in impasse. read full story / add a comment

Blacklisting of workers is a `National scandal' and the scandal is that it has gone on for so long and not enough was done by those shouting the loudest now. Millions of people would be forgiven for thinking that the illegal blacklisting of over 3,000 construction workers has suddenly been discovered. Yet it has been the worst kept secret for over two decades that those who spoke up with concerns for Health and Safety on construction sites or defended wages and conditions were punished and denied employment. Brave people paid a heavy price as each year, each month, each day brought more discrimination - more lives were being wrecked, houses lost to repossession, stress induced ill health, heart attacks and even worse. read full story / add a comment

Abortion Rights Campaign established in Dublin today, 19/01/20130 At a national pro-choice meeting in Dublin today, the name and aims of the newly established Abortion Rights Campaign were announced. Groups and individuals from across the country, including Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Belfast came together to discuss and agree the next steps for the movement. The aims of the campaign include legislation on the X & C cases and repeal of the 8th amendment to the Irish constitution. Actions and events are being organised across the country over the coming months. Speakers at the event included Clare Daly TD who said, “The Abortion Rights Campaign is not a sprint, it's a marathon and we're here for the long haul. In the meantime, we want the immediate introduction of legislation for the right to safe, legal abortion when a woman's life is at risk, including from suicide. We also want the simplest, broadest legislation that includes the right to abortion in the case of fatal foetal abnormality. The Association of Hunt Saboteurs will be holding a lively demonstration outside Dail Eireann on 1st February to coincide with the start of the ICC coursing Final in Powerstown Park Clonmel. We will have some Dail members present and will be again highlighting the upcoming Private members bill to ban coursing being brought before the Dail by TDs Clare daly and Maureen O Sullivan. Hare Coursing is a melting pot of many ills that need to be extinguished. Focus on indoctrinating children.
