PRESS RELEASE: HORSECRACING IRELAND AWARDS DEMONSTRATION. STOP RACING HORSES TO DEATH, END ALL Equine RACING , Horses deserve the right to live free of exhaustive training, pain and death. The horse racing industry advertises itself as “glamorous,” or the Sport of Kings. However in reality, exploitation, welfare violations, cruelty, and premature deaths are an inherent and unavoidable part of this industry which is based on greed. A lot of effort is put in to covering up the true face of the industry. Dr. Holly Cheever, an award winning veterinary surgeon and expert on animal abuse prevention noted “cruelty is an inherent part of the horse racing industry.” • read full story / add a comment

DUBLIN DEMONSTRATION SUPPORTING Millions of Chinese, they Are Calling for an End to the Yulin Dog Meat Festival A Demonstration by Irish Animal Rights activists is supporting other Vegan/Anti animal eating campaigners worldwide , especially Chinese activists who are hoping the Chinese authorities will crack down on the horrors of the notorious Yulin dog and cat eating festival from 21st to 30th june 2018. Officials failed to keep pledges to come down heavily on the appalling scenes of dogs being battered, blow-torched and butchered last year, leaving thousands of animals – many stolen pets – to die horrendously. https://www.facebook.com/events/270969030137534/ (IRISH LINK) read full story / add a comment

HORSERACING, HORSES DESERVE BETTER. “HORSE racing abandoned on horse welfare grounds due to the extreme heat and distance of the race.” Not in Ireland. Forcing and whipping horses to race in extreme heat, high temperatures and humidity, lack of air movement, poor ventilation, dehydration and exposure to direct sunlight all increase the danger of serious heat and sun related problems, Irish horses are no exception, especially when they are expected to perform at intense levels, just as racehorses are. Racehorses suffering heat stress can collapse, sometimes resulting in death. Heat stroke, which occurs over a short period of time – usually when a horse is unfit. Behind the scenes lies a story of immense suffering. Some outcomes of heat stress are falls, seizures, heart damage/attacks and muscle and Soaring temperatures at Cheltenham has seen races abandoned. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Press Release. Re National Coursing Final 2018 Our group co-organised the large demonstration against Live Hare Coursing at the Powerstown Park Coursing Disgrace. A quieter than usual and less well attended event. RTE did not even give much coverage, thankfully it’s a dying pastime which for us is the equivalent to child abuse. Our biggest question was- why was a convicted man on charges of blooding gentle hares [to train his dogs} allowed participate? He was Ger Mc Kenna’s son Owen Mc Kenna who was filmed at a Tipperary track some years ago. Journalist Donal McIntyre secretly filmed McKenna and others clearly blooding the dogs, for a BBC documentary on the greyhound industry. A court case ensued and Judge Michael Patwell sentenced Owen McKenna and a number of other defendants to prison terms. Please see link (below) to footage of the blooding session (part of the documentary entitled “On the Line”) in which you will see Mr. McKenna calmly inflict pain and suffering on the captive rabbits. The ICC should now be asked to explain its position…how can it possibly stand over McKenna’s involvement in the National Coursing Meeting if, as it claims, it does not blooding. read full story / add a comment ![]()

ANIMAL ABUSE aka BLOODSPORTS WILL HAVE SURVIVED 101 YEARS in Millstreet. The annual Millstreet Hare coursing event set for 3rd/4th Jan 2015 has already caused disgruntled locals to contact ourselves and other direct action Animal rights Groups. This cruel spectacle actually takes place on a GAA pitch in a local public park. The park in the centre of the town, a favourite with locals, dog walkers, footballers etc however is disrupted for four weeks a year and actually has a rusty dump of an enclosure permanently in place to hold the netted hares for the coursing two day event. All this is allowed in a public park such is the power of the Town Park Committee. The opposition to ending this has prompted people to release the hares on many occasions but sadly they get recaptured and coursed, it fails as too many obstacles stop their escape and they are enclosed behind more wire than can be dismantled, until maybe this year if locals do not give up. read full story / add a comment ![]()

WAKE UP COVENEY…..STOP THE LYING, -WE DO SNARE 6000 BADGERS A YEAR RANTINGS FROM OUR AGRICULTURE Minister in the video below "What we are continuing to do is have a humane and targeted cull of badgers which does not involve snares or anything like that. It involves trapping and catching badgers and putting them down in as humane a way as we can." EVEN BADGERS KNOW WHAT A SNARE IS! EVEN BADGERS KNOW WHAT A SNARE IS! SEE THE MINISTER LYING NOW …LINK HERE BELOW https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oRSnDcJOxo&feature=you...1m52s Snaring IS the method used to trap badgers by the Department of Agriculture despite the Minister’s outrageous attempt to deny and conceal this fact. Who is he trying to hoodwink? The AOHS believes that the method of capture is a barbaric wire snare which holds the helpless badger in excruciating pain until it is dispatched by gunshot or clubbed to death the next morning at the earliest as some accounts by farmers have revealed. That is if the badger has not been strangled beforehand by the snares wire. When nursing female badgers are snared and shot, their cubs are left to starve to death underground. The DOA refuse to allow a period for lactating badgers to raise their young without risk of torture" read full story / add a comment ![]()

A review of the Irish Greyhound Racing Industry by Indecon has said it believed that a “more severe system of sanctions” was needed to prevent animal cruelty in Racing. We in AFAR however feel that this statement is naive and is based solely on improving the Industry image to raise revenue. What is obviously excluded from the report is the DEATH RATE of ex-racing Greyhounds that is conveniently overlooked. The suffering of ‘raced’ dogs is immeasurable and has only been documented due to the reports of people rescuing these unfortunate animals. Greyhounds have been butchered, drugged, abandoned, vivisected on in our collages, shot and mutilated when their money making days are over. Pits have been uncovered with buried dogs and a slaughterhouse using Bolt-guns to legally kill these dogs was also exposed. read full story / add a comment ![]()

SATURDAY at 5pm. The AOHS have just received information from a Waterford train employee that a pack of hounds hunting across the train tracks have been apparently mowed down by the 2.50 Waterford to Dublin train. We are currently seeking conclusive proof about this incident!!!!-we now have some more on this. It happened apparently in the area of Mullinavat and the train accident happened at approximately 3.20 pm this afternoon at Mulinavat. As it is Saturday we presume it was the Kilkenny foxhounds hunt, who hunt every Saturday at 11am. This has yet to be confirmed. They would normally meet at 11 am. However we know that a hunt met today at the Rising Sun Pub as the pub staff have just confirmed. They however know nothing of the accident. Gardai in Moincoin were not informed. *Rising sun pub/ Mulinavat. Alternatively call 00353 (0) 51 898173 for enquires. read full story / add a comment ![]()

We will have some Dail members present and will be again highlighting the upcoming Private members bill to ban coursing being brought before the Dail by TDs Clare daly and Maureen O Sullivan. Hare Coursing is a melting pot of many ills that need to be extinguished. Focus on indoctrinating children. A focus of this year’s final seems to be the influx of children expected at Clonmel’s Powerstown Park. • A Greyhound supporters forum GREYHOUND NUTS is discussing the fact that lots of school children will attend this event read full story / add a comment ![]()

We strongly condemn Fine GAEL Councellor Seosamh O Laoi’s claims that the west coast seal population needs to be culled [to protect the fishery industry]. In reality, the decline in fish stocks is due to over over-fishing by the very industry he is involved in. This man, who is himself involved in aquaculture - said that representatives of the fishing organisations should sit down with the relevant experts and work out a culling strategy. He also reminisces to olden days where fishermen carried guns in their boats, and "kept the place clean." read full story / add a comment ![]()

Dublin Primary School brings their young pupils to night of gambling at the dogs. The O‘Connel’s primary school Parents Association obviously believes that Gambling is a healthy pursuit for 8 to 10 year old schoolchildren. A night at the dogs was arranged by the OCS Parents association on last Thursday 3rd May. A mini-bus and apparently a Gardai community Van shuttled children for a night of gambling at Shelbourne Park to bet on about 12 races as no underage limit applies at Greyhound and Horse tracks in Ireland. One child won 60-80 euro and the website for the school said the following regarding the event. The O Connell Primary School Dublin website states-‘ A Night at the Dogs posted 4 May 2012 00:08 by Gerry Hancock .A big Thank You to everyone who helped out with or attended the OCS Parents' Assoc. Night at the Dogs last night. It was an overwhelming success.’ read full story / add a comment ![]()

Press Release IRISH HORSES BETRAYED….as Irish Government plans to export to China…a country steeped in animal abuse. It goes without saying that being a thoroughbred racehorse gets you no better treatment from those who exploit you. As horse racing pundits in the UK give lip service to the horse killings at the Grand National we do not hear many racing supporters condemning the move by the Irish Government to supply China with Irish horses. read full story / add a comment ![]()

School children to be introduced to gambling and animal abuse. Who would have thought the school curriculum in Ireland would be introducing children to Gambling and animal abuse? The Irish Greyhound Board, the IGB, are now offering students and teachers tours of Greyhound stadia around the country. These same racing tracks allow children to bet their pocket money as no age limit applies to anyone placing bets. The IGB, synonymous with trying to export Greyhounds to China and with cruel treatment towards unwanted hounds are using school tours to indoctrinate children into gambling. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Press Release: CALL FOR IMMEDIATE END TO ANIMALS IN CIRCUSES AFAR yet again call for a ban on animals in Circuses after a circus trainer was trampled by an elephant today in Cork. Our sympathies lie with the animals who are imprisoned in circuses for entertainment. We call on our elected representatives to use common sense on this issue which is growing more pressing as absolutely no legislation exists in Ireland to prohibit the keeping of exotic species. The Department of Agriculture are responsible for issuing import licences for these animals on request. WE WANT THESE LISENCES STOPPED. read full story / add a comment |
