Trust in the BBC has been collapsing for years. For many, it finally died during Covid when the national broadcaster took on the role of chief cheerleader for the lockdowns, no dissent allowed. A reckoning is long overdue.

It's been a very long time since the BBC even pretended to be impartial on climate change, says Chris Morrison. The truth is, decades of crying 'Fire!' in the climate theatre have left the BBC with net zero credibility.

COP30 is Trump's Eisenhower moment, says Dr Tilak Doshi. Just as Eisenhower's Suez intervention ended Europe's pretensions to empire, Trump's energy realism is ending Brussels's grandiloquent claims to climate leadership.

Knowledge Exchange 2nd Season

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Thursday April 28, 2011 11:08author by Bill Doran - Knowledge Exchangeauthor email info at knowledgeexchange dot ie Report this post to the editors

Take part in the second season of the free public lecture series

An open collective meeting will be held this Sunday, 1st of May, at 1400 to discuss and plan a new season of free public lectures. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come and take part, whether you have an idea for a lecture, a venue or a way to connect to more people.

Knowledge is an open collective group that aims to bring education and learning to everyone. Our public spaces, parks, streets corners - in fact anywhere we can gather - should be places where we share everything we know with each other. In theory, anyone can use Wikipedia or the Public Libraries to design and follow their own curriculum BUT not everyone has the time or opportunity to do that. The more complex and abstract a field becomes, the more difficult it is to navigate and to find different perspectives on the same subject.

To help breakthrough these obstacles and open learning to everyone Knowledge proposes to run seasons of free public lectures. These short courses will be presented by volunteers with a background in and a passion for the given area. There are no barriers to taking part and the lectures will be free form, shaped as much by those who come as by the those giving them.

For the second season we're hoping to expand the repertoire of Knowledge with more lectures/talks/workshops/rambling interactions and spread it across more of Dublin city. To achieve the latter we're hoping to run pop-hedge schools, outdoor talks around the city centre, walking lectures as well as picnics and dinners.

If you have any ideas of disciplines you feel would be worthwhile for others to have the chance to know more about or new innovative ways to structure learning or you just like bouncing around thoughts please come and along and take part.
