whats an internationalist? and what in your opinion is "sovereignty"? not trying to rile anyone, but quite interested to know what they are, in your words. I agree with what you say about the imf.
there is nothing anywhere that states that by being an internationalist that you are inherently opposed to nationalism or sovereignty. i think you need a better word for whatever you think you are because even the IMF are "internationalist" and they don't like sovereignty
Article 7 of the Fianna Fail Constitution clearly states that it is to maintain Ireland as a Sovereign State.
Ask yourself................what went wrong?
There's only one way to show this Gov't how you feel . . . . . . . . . . . . . . and Vigils just ain't gonna cut it I'm sorry to say, sweetie
I would interpret sovereignty as applied to nations organisations or individuals as meaning that they are able to act autonomously without being subject to outside interference. As such I have no problem with the term when used to refer to Ireland's current lack of control over it's own affairs.
However I also notice a worrying trend in the media and discussions on the subject to narrow the terms of reference to Ireland alone. This is foolish and dangerous. The IMF are an international phenomenon. We know their form from how they have behaved in other countries. Ireland is only the latest to fall victim to their predatory manipulations. In order to win this one we need to look outside our own borders and notions of nationalism. This is part of a global trend and the solutions while rooted locally have to be applied globally. The stand we take here will have a direct bearing on the struggles of other peoples across the planet. We owe it not only to ourselves but to the rest of humanity also to stand firm.
I consider myself to be sovereign over myself. I want to stand with other sovereign individuals in sovereign groupings that stretch across national boundaries to take down the IMF and their like and create a future and a present that cares for people and the Earth.
