While media attention has bee heaped upon Wiki-Leaks, one person has been largely forgotten: Bradley Manning. Private Bradley Manning has been accused of previously supplying information to Wikileaks and is under suspicion of providing the documents which have been released. Bradley is now held in isolation from the outside world, in military detention in Kuwait. Bradley faces, for his alleged actions, up to 52 years imprisonment. Here are two articles regarding Bradley. Noting how when there’s “one man in chains, none are free”, a friend comments: “Bradley represents the truth-sayer in us all – if we leave him there, we abandon our own inner calling for truth”.

dunno.maybe he has some sort of crazy idea democracy should be tried rather than secretive militarist/industrialist oligopoly. democracy requires information and debate, dictatorship thrives on secrecy and organised false division.

as for that buck private remark, haven't plenty of schoolkids got their hands on nato and other 'security system' files. in fact there is a british kid being threatened with deportation to the US to face trial over trying to warn the idiots their systems were porous. not the first.during gulfwar1 I was living in holland and a 'buck private was borrowing weapons sales journals from the brass so a few of us could publicise the highly civilised mentality behind the propaganda of techno-death delivery to peasant populations by the cream of western science.wish we hadn't returned them now.beautiful productions.bit like Gloss for boys who think its mannish to play with guns.Often a sort of psychological compensation for other failures(see Pistol-Packin Willy the Kid for illustration).there will be another one along in a minit, if the meejits can persuade us unwashed that FG are the way forward now that Bond, sub-prime Bond, has used his licence to kill the lights.

Did our young hero find his inspiration before he entered militarty service, or after he saw American atrocities in a war zone?

I find it hard to believe rhat a "buck private" would have access to all this classified info without help from higher up.

Support continues to grow for Bradley Manning.

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore has donated $5,000 (£3,900) to help defend Army Spc Bradley Manning, the man suspected of giving classified documents to the website Wikileaks. Mr Moore told the AP news agency he hopes to make the public understand Spc Manning allegedly exposed "war crimes".

"He did a courageous thing and he did a patriotic thing," Mr Moore said.

The Bradley Manning Support Network, a group raising money for an attorney for Spc Manning, said they were delighted with Mr Moore's support.

Well this is a weird one that backs up the chaos "butterfly waving its wings in the Amazon" type theory. Just got the following email from Steve who I haven't seen since I got deported from the U.S. nearly 20 years ago. He lives with his family at the Norfolk Catholic Worker in Virginia and had read a recent article I wrote and circulated on Joe Glenton being freed and Brad Manning being locked up.
http://www.indymedia.ie/article/97338?search_text=glenton

Ciaron,
Thanks so much for the info. it lead me to look up Bradley Manning's website and I found that there was to be a vigil yesterday at the Marine base in Virginia where he is being held. Four from our area stopped on our way to Faith & Resistance in DC went and it was a very fine gathering. It ended up being the first time that we've been in the New York Times. Today's paper has a story on Manning on page 1 and pictures on page three. My signs and self are in the picture thanks to you. peace, Steve

Here's Steve on CNN holding the "Thank You PFC Manning" placard.......

The most strident rhetoric has come from the ultra-right. Republican Congressman Mike Rogers of Michigan, a former FBI agent who sits on the House Intelligence Committee, told a local radio station Monday that he thought the death penalty would be appropriate punishment for Manning if he is convicted on charges of leaking classified military documents to WikiLeaks.

The Heroism Of PFC Bradley Manning
By Evan Knappenberger

http://www.countercurrents.org/knappenberger310710.htm

As far as the courageous PFC Manning goes, he is my new military intelligence hero. Thanks, Brad. And shame on you, media, for being out-reported by a twenty-two year-old kid with a laptop. But most of all, shame on you, US Army, for forcing a kid to be the one to finally expose the truth about your costly and deadly wars

Bradley Manning ‘On Suicide Watch’

al jazeera reports he was transferred to Quantic military base in the US on Thursday night.

Today's Irish Times has a nice Weekend Review recruiting-brochure for the 'fighting Irish' to fuck off out of the live register and imitate their forefathers' heroic defence of empire in Afghanistan. The Royal Irish Times.
Well I suppose if the jobless recovery is to work (i.e. the rich resume expanding their wealth while the creators of the same wealth are rendered more productivity-amenable) that current expenditure will have to be sliced.

I went along to a Stop the War Coalition meeting in London last Monday night to hear Joe Glenton recently released from military prison for refusing redeployment to Afghanistan.
http://www.connection-ev.de/z.php?ID=1117 Glenton arrived late and was great
It was the evening the wikileaks story broke. All the speakers preceeding Glenton (Labor Party, SWP,ex-SWP) spoke excitedly about the wikileaks thang but there was no mention of Bradley Manning - accused and imprisoned in Kuwait.

This movement's got to learn something about solidarity with resisters and fast.

The next major event is slated for November coinciding with some NATO meeting in Portugal, looks like it's shaping up to be another harmless cattle drive down main street. If you were serious about creating some tension in this town around the war...... couple of thousand people riding the tube to Northwood HQ would do the trick., it also doubles as a NATO franchise. But don't hold ya breath, this war has been going 9 years and the movement leadership haven't moved past Groundhog Day.

More serious resistance has come out of the British and U.S. militaries to this war than out of the British and U.S. civil society peace movements. Check out www.couragetoresist.org for more updateson Manning. The military in general displays way more solidarity and courage than the anti-war movement. If the wikileaks doesn't shake and awake civil society to this war....maybe there's not much left to shake and awake.

I was having a pint at what use to be the punk venue - the Marquee this evening...now a franchise Witherspoons, Sky News rolled on on the many television screens about the biggest British military offensive presently underway tonight....wouldn't like to guess how many folks were conversing about the war????? It's a war with no visible support and no visible opposition...it's just the war.
