The Chief's 100th day in jail is remembered by Cork Shell to Sea

This afternoon at Daunt Sq., at the junction of Cork's busiest shopping streets, Cork Shell to Sea held a stall to remind the city and its people that Pat 'the Chief' O'Donnell has just spent his 100th day behind Shell's bars at Castlerea Prison.

At 4 o'clock, a dozen or more Cork Shell to Sea members and supporters met at Daunt Sq. and began to set up an information stall. Once that was done, volunteers held up the banner photographed, and others then began to distribute flyers outlining Pat's plight and his reasons for opposing Shell's plans for his community. People also manned a table where a selection of flyers giving information on the Great Oil & Gas Robbery, the struggle against the Corrib Gas project in Erris, and also flyers on Niall Harnett who was also jailed 31 days ago for being part of the resistance to Shell.

The stall ran from its start at 4 o'clock to almost 6 o'clock in the bright early summer sunshine. Public response to the stall was very positive, with a thousand or more flyers etc. distributed and almost 30 postcards filled out to Pat by well-wishers, which will be sent to Pat in Castlerea Prison. Even a Garda who attempted to clear the stall and banners off the footpath using the Public Order Act was persuaded to desist and let Cork Shell to Sea mark our hero and friend's 100th day of Shell imprisonment with dignity and a little splash of colour.

Cork Shell to Sea would like to thank all those who turned up and gave of their time to mark Pat's century of days in jail, and also to the citizens of Cork for their positive response as always!
