Neo Nazis out of Temple Bar

Text of a leaflet distributed around the Temple Bar area today by a group of 40 antifascists.
Ringleader Joseph McKenna (RDF member)
Ringleader Joseph McKenna (RDF member)

Known members of a neo-nazi skinhead gang have been operating in this area over the summer months, attempting to recruit what they see as impressionable young people to their warped ideals.

The gang, led by fully trained members of the Irish army, have been linked to serious racial and homophobic attacks in the Temple Bar area. Despite ongoing reports in the media of the gang’s activities Gardai have failed to do anything to tackle the problem.

WE SAY; Fascists will not be allowed to use Temple Bar or any other part of the City as a recruitment grounds. They will be met with opposition every time they try bring fear to our city streets.

Everyone has the right to move through the city unmolested and without fear of attack for the colour of their skin, nationality or sexuality.
Nobody should have to live in fear of neo-nazi attacks.

We say these fascists cant be allowed to organise in any part of this city and that their hate filled white supremacist ideals only serve to pit workers against one another. At a time when we face daily attacks on our working conditions it behoves all workers to stand together and fight for their common interests.

The group can be easily recognised by their pathetic uniforms of shaved heads, black boots with white laces and militaristic clothing emblazoned with swastikas and other nazi imagery.

We call on anyone who has any information on this neo-nazi gang to shop them by contacting us on this email address; fascistsout at gmail dot com

Full anonymity assured.

At one stage three uniformed gardai approached people giving out leaflets in Crown Alley. One garda took the name and address of one person. He claimed that giving out the leaflet, which had photos of two self-confessed Dublin fascists, was an offence under the Public Order Act because it was "an incitement to hatred" against the fascists.

When challenged by one of the anti-fascists and told that he was being downright silly, he got into a Cartman-like mode ('respect my authority') and ordered the man to leave. That didn't happen.

Interestingly, the garda's two colleagues seemed to agree that he was indeed being stupid. Rather than backing him up and making the anti-fascist obey the instruction to move away, they stayed silent and spent the time studying their own shoes in embarrassed silence.

Taking our city back!

Antifascist activists took to Dublin’s streets yesterday in a concerted effort to both spread and gather information on known neo-nazi’s who have been using the Temple Bar area as a breeding ground for their vile ideas. 40 activists took back Temple Bar for close to two hours on Saturday afternoon, stickering the area and distributing 1400 leaflets to passers-by, buskers and local businesses. One pathetic skinhead who tried taking pictures of the activists had his phone removed and the pictures deleted. He was seen later talking anxiously to a passing Garda patrol.

This group of self-styled neo-nazi’s have been intimidating people for long enough. Fascists like these should not be allowed organise on our streets, or anywhere, and racial and homophobic abuse in any form will not be tolerated. This was the first of many actions by Antifascist activists and we will spread our message loud and clear; Every person, regardless of the colour of their skin, or nationality, or sexuality has the right to move through this city without the fear of attack by idiots with racist agendas.

If you would like to get involved in future antifascist actions, or have any information on these racist skinheads, contact fascistsout@gmail.com.

1: You're a fascist, you're not running a vegetarian info stand or something. Do you really think you're entitled to your beliefs and people should just stand back and watch? Why are you and your mates wearing iron-cross buckles and Wehrmacht insignia? Do you not think, just maybe, this will bring unwanted attention?

2: Confused about this legal action stuff, about the leaflet or the newspaper?

3: If its against either of them, you've surely lost your cause by coming on here?

4: Why would you run the risk of serious retribution by carrying out some bizarre form of 'vigilante action'? This is Dublin, not some Eastern European city. How much of a fantasist are you?

5: You're very young, surely your family are aware of all this? If you're making vigilante threats against anyone on the left in Dublin (Be they republicans, socialists, anarchists, individual antifascists or anyone else) do you not see that many of these groups predate your street gang by decades? It is incredibly naive of you not to know what such an 'action' would entail in Dublin, or any Irish city.

Seriously young lad, just give up while the going is good.

If you're out of the game, make it known. The same applies to the younger boys in the above pictures.
Quit while you're ahead. Posting threats against Socialists,Irish Republicans or anyone else on Indymedia is an incredibly silly thing to do, and now your best bet is to publically state you're no longer a part of the problem. Info is never in short supply, don't get involved in something so stupid so young.

The leaflet being handed out in Temple Bar was the first I heard about this group but then I realised that I had actually seen them in town a few times. I dont think it occoured to me that there would be group of genuine Neo Nazis hanging around so openly on the streets of the capital. So, on top of junkies, drunks, dealers and the standard scum we now have these idiots to worry about.
As a serving member in the Permanent Defence Forces for over 5 years I find it very worrying that there are members of the organisation which I'm very proud to be part of in this gang. The Defence Forces conducts many operations at home and abroad from internal security, aid to the civil power to peacekeeping duties around the world. Always guided by procedures that uphold our constitution (which does not descriminate against anyone regerdless of race or anything else) and which protects the rights and lives of people less well off then ourselves. As far as I'm concerned, if its true, this guy has in principle broken the oath he took when he joined the army and is a traitor. Nearly 100 Irish soldiers have died either in action or accidents overseas and this is an insult to their memories!

Stephen thats more than fair, to be honest best thing any of these young kids can do is cut and run.
You'd be doing the right thing by getting out of the picture, and distancing yourself from any silly eejits.

To the other lads, not least whoever posted the threat up here against socialists, irish republicans and the rest- you'd do well to do the same as Stephen. Don't do anything stupid at such a young age. Clear your name, and get out of the picture. This is good advice at the minute, take up on it.

Hey Smurf - PDF,

The mainstream media reports are true. In fact, when the first fascist was confronted in Temple Bar he was wearing a RDF hoody with his surname printed on it. The best thing you can do is raise the issue within your own ranks.

To quote two pieces from the newspaper:

Commandant Gavin Young confirmed: : "An investigation is being carried out."
31st May 2009.

and in August this appeared:

"TD Finian McGrath plans to raise the issue in the Dail.
The Dublin North Central independent, whose nephew serves in the Army and recently returned from a tour in Chad, is outraged with the force's tolerance of hate-mongers. He said: "This is a cancer in our Defence Forces that I will be calling on [Defence Minister] Willie O'Dea to launch a tactical strike against. The Army must deal with this matter immediately and erase any people found to be involved from their ranks. People like this risk damaging the Army's good reputation on an international level."

People who think they SHOULD be given the boot were urged to write to: Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Dermot Earley, Defence Forces HQ, Infirmary Road, Dublin 7.
I suggest you do so mate! It's a stain on the other lads in the RDF to say the least, these kids are nothing but teen-nazis and like Kalim above they like to pose with airsofts to feel hard. Hopefully the TD involved will raise the issue in the Dail and the RDF will finally do something about it. Its amazing they're willing to allow one of their own to hang around in a nazi gang wearing THEIR 'Oglaidh na hÉireann' hoody, and to have his little lackies Kalim and Graham right beside him. Give 'em the boot from the RDF.

So how does all this stuff start anyway, kids hanging out near temple bar music centre getting into some sort of white power music groups, and from there getting brainwashed with the whole "hitler wasnt such a bad guy after all, just looking after his people. With all the immigration here these days we could do with a bit of that. Look at them stealing our jobs" etc etc.

Where are these lads living anyway, be interesting to hear have they got any flack since all this stuff happened.

Interesting how all of Grooves´s "friends" are not coming in here to vouch for his good non-nazi, gay friendly nature... as they were busilly doing on the lists.

Was he too, just caught up with hanging around with a few bad lads?

Eighty-eight is used as code among Neo-Nazis to identify each other. H is the 8th letter of the alphabet, so 88 is taken to stand for HH which in turn means Heil Hitler.

On bebo, your able to write besides you friend's name about how you know each other.

Grove's has friends descriptions such as "88 story sunshine", Heil Hitler!!!", sieg heil my nazi friend", My eyes have seen the glory of the trampling at the zoo...... ...we've washed ourselves in niggers blood!!!..", "skins 4 life " and "seig heil". I've also seen pictures of him making nazi salutes.

The reality is that there are many with a skin colour other than white and a sexuality other than straight who are sacred to walk through temple bar these days due to the activities of these fash type kids. This is a disgusting state of affairs and has been tolerated too long. Last weekends action and future actions are an attempt to ensure that there is no space for fascism to grow in dublin and that everyone regardless of race or sexuality can walk our streets without intimidation.

Last night residents of Harrow a suburb of London only famous because of its elitist school were treated to a spectacle of the street politics fascism does best. the ruck on the street
& this is how it works, in Harrow or any part of Britain, exactly how it works in Hungary with the legion (of Dwyer's pals), Germany, Spain with the Falange or on the streets of Ireland.

cause
The rightwing English Defence League (EDL) and a group called Stop the Islamisation of Europe (SIOE) had said they would converge on the area at 5pm for a rally to mark the eighth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
effect
Unite Against Facism called on its supporters to meet for a counter-demonstration.

* the commercial news coverage :

* the IMC UK coverage :
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2009/09/437841.html
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2009/09/437838.html

* the fascists always organise their marches where they know they aren't welcome.
* the fascists always turn insecurity to hatred. Whereas across Europe in their birth period the fascists could identify as their enemies; the jews, gypsies, those intent on creating socialism, those intent on feminism, those who joined masonic groups (akin in our age to a Dan Brown fan club) etc- now they seem to think the enemy is muslims.

"The British minister for communities and local government, John Denham MP has spoken of "parallels" between rightwing groups planning protests in Muslim neighbourhoods and Oswald Mosley's incendiary marches through Jewish areas of east London in the 1930s.

Announcing a government drive to address issues alienating white, working-class people at risk of being "exploited" by the far-right, John Denham, the secretary of state for communities and local government, singled out protests being organised by the English Defence League." : http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/sep/11/minister...reets

Europe is not being "Islamified" and anyone who thinks it is really needs to watch late night telly a lot more and maybe buy a copy of a tabloid newspaper and properly stare at page 3. There are no more foreigners working in Britain than there are Britons working abroad. There are not millions of squid leaving European societies in cash transfers to the third world every day because those with menial jobs here help pay their families' bills.

But there are fascists. Easy to recognise fascists with the uniforms and codes and harder to recognise fascists with degrees, careers and political ambitions.

Europe never properly addressed its historical fascist question. It is probably offensive to many Europeans to say that Europe is at heart a union of states which are in the articulation of their nationalism without exception perfect examples of post-fascist societies.

Europe is fascist, to its core, to its songs and heart, memory and omission. It is the challenge of Europeans to overcome the fascism in our societies, institutions, culture and self-awareness to adopt willingly states of co-existence, plurality, diversity, tolerance and mutual respect.

Part of that is not wasting too much time in drawing parallels with the past.
Nor even wasting too much time pondering "alienation" amongst the supposedly white trash who never had a look in on the knowledge economy human resources labour capital thing, for they are no more than white niggers.

Surely nobody can say that if we gave every fascist a job, be they an Irish fascist, or an English fascist, an Ulster fascist or a Spanish fascist, a German fascist or a Hungarian fascist -

they'd stop believing what they do or hating who they hate?

The last thing we want to do is give them jobs. It would only lead to them having the resources to get elected and sooner than you could read HG Well's novel "new world order" one of them would be elected president of the permanent council of the EU.

If only they had never got beyond making music fusions and the sherman shirt.

see you! see me? gimme a reason coz I'm just an angry white nigger with no culture of my own.

Looks like "Grovesy" has been into a bit of nazi stuff already, as featured on his band, Goetia´s early online music space. Featured as the visual backdrop is a picture from the holocoust with heaps of dead jews. Also notice the use of the 88, as outlined above, initials for Heil Hitler, seems definately neo-nazi!
http://www.myspace.com/goetia88

The bands newer online space states;
"Formed in September 06. It began with Grovesy asking Ham to form a Black Metal band over the Summer..."
http://www.bebo.com/Goetia666

Goetia (Middle Latin, anglicized goety (pronounced /ˈɡoʊ.ɨti/), from Greek γοητεία goēteia "sorcery") refers to a practice which includes the invocation of angels or the evocation of demons, and usage of the term in English largely derives from the 17th century grimoire The Lesser Key of Solomon, which features an Ars Goetia as its first section. It contains descriptions of the evocation of seventy-two demons, famously edited by Aleister Crowley in 1904 as The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King.

Yeah, they're called Goetia or something, they're from the Killiney area i think. Them and a load of their friends kicked the shit out of my friends at a party in Killiney before the summer. Dodgey shit.

From that theres a bit of discussion as to whether they are nazis or not

Ah i think i know who you're talking about, there's a band called Anguished (\m/ 666) who are around 15 years old, and i've heard they paint swastikas onto their chest and go around pretending to be hard at Cabinteely gigs. It's an interesting article that one in the Irish Examiner (linked to in the last comment) & certainly it & its associated opinion pieces in the Irish Examiner raise questions as to how people in other societies would react if statues and memorials were raised to their forebears such as Petain and Mussolini today atempting to contrast & compare foreign treatment of such things with Dublin's statue to the wartime IRA colloborator with Hitler. Yes indeed. What if such things were raised, or worse - still there on view, left up in plain sight after years of ignorance or even hot debate on excision of the historical or cultural record? That would call for a decent copy of Pevsnar's or at least a personal history which included visits to both France and Italy where part of the itinerary was not only a tour of republican, socialist and anarchist sites and memorials but also a glance at the remains of the darkest past. Fortuanately I've done that and my Pevsnar's though dog eared may be supplemented by the internet.

François Cogné was the sculptor responsible for most of the statues to the leadership of France during the Great or First World war. His works in bronze were commissioned, paid for and erected in the early 1920's. Amongst which the representation of Clemenceau still stands on the Champs Elysee and that of field marshall Foch still sits upon a horse but has been moved twice across Paris. His representation of Petain was so good that in total 5 copies of it were cast and to this day one may still be seen in the central square of Lille. Of course people groan "Lille is not Paris", nor forthat matter is Cork is Dublin - ask any reader of the *Irish* Examiner, but the fact remains that in the city of the north of France, Petain has sat on his horse undisturbed for nearly 80 years. Perhaps he reminds people of the slaughter of Frenchmen in the first war, or the occupation by the Nazis and the partition of France and the shortlived Vichy state. Maybe they don't even notice him and the only time he proves useful is on a New Year's night when drunken youths clamber up on his little flat cap and vomit in all directions.Though perhaps the most interesting sculptor work by Cogné on Petain was the smaller bust intended to replace the traditional depiction of the Republic in the trainstations of Paris during the occupation by the Nazis even though the "French state" which the erstwhile hero turned collaborator led, held no jurisidiction over Paris. Petain was and is a difficult subject for the French, which is why for the most part his statues & depictions have not been intefered with if they mark his career as the hero of Verdun and not the traitor of Vichy. Let's not forget even de Gaulle chose to pardon or at least commute his sentence.

Oh yep - In 1928 Cogné exhibited his first bust of Mussolini in Paris by which stage we could certainly file that artist away in the "fascist sympathiser" section. Throughout Italy there is quite a remarkable collection of official or semi-official municipal Mussolini stuff. Not surprising really when one remembers that period of Italian history lasted so long and has in a transmuted form until this day. However else could one explain the frequent appearance of Mussolini's sons on TV documentaries and the presence of his grand-daughter in Berlusconi's coalition.

But by far the most interesting of such ephemera in bronze and granite for me, is not the crap of Franco in the Spanish state where I live, but the story of how Adolf Hitler's honorary citizenship (granted in 1932 before the man had come to power) was revoked from a little town in on the eastern Baltic coast of Germany just in time for the meeting of the G8 in Bad Doberan in 2007 It was only in 2007 that the Germans began to consider revoking Hitler's passport, suggesting to many that he had long last died. c/f http://www.spiegel.de/international/0,1518,472106,00.html & where I mentioned his honorary citizenship & the G8 first : third comment of "Burning Books - the pretzien "Bücherverbrennung" http://www.indymedia.ie/article/81226
