In 1948, Jewish Community in Israel under the leadership of David Ben-Gurion reestablished sovereignty over their ancient homeland. Declaration of independence of the modern State of Israel was announced on the day that the last British forces left Israel (May 14, 1948).

A day after the declaration of independence of the State of Israel, armies of five Arab countries, Egypt, Syria, Transjordan, Lebanon and Iraq, invaded Israel. This marked the beginning of the War of Independence. Arab states have jointly waged four full scale wars against Israel:

1948 War of Independence
1956 Sinai War
1967 Six Day War
1973 Yom Kippur War

Despite the numerical superiority of the Arab armies, Israel defended itself each time and won.

VERY RELEVANT IS THE FACT THAT -
******************************************************************
After each war the Israeli army withdrew from most of the areas it captured.

******************************************************************

BELOW THE PARAGRAPH THAT HAS THE MOST RELEVANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.............

******************************************************************
This is unprecedented in World history and shows Israel's willingness to reach peace even at the risk of fighting for its very existence each time anew.

Security Council Resolution 446, March 22, 1979

The boycott of Israeli goods is a crucial escalation of the campaign against the vicious colonial program of the Israeli State. Encouraging politicians and the press to acknowledge and respond to the ongoing atrocities against the Palestinian people is clearly insufficient, hence this campaign deserves to be supported by all who share the belief that Palestinian children and their parents are entitled to the same human rights as the rest of us.

In relation to this Galway picket and boycott campaign , B & Q in Knocknacarra sell a wide range of Keter goods and Israeli made Stanley toolboxes, B & Q are featuring Keter sheds in display areas and their Own brand B & Q plastic sheds are in fact made in Israel, by Keter of course. Furthermore, due to changes in seasonal promotions, since the present assault on Gaza began in the last couple of weeks they have actually expanded this range of Israeli goods and heavily promoted them featuring them in several display areas which I think emphasises just how far such companies have to come in terms of ethical considerations.

Email just received from another activist, re: Israeli Barcodes

-------------

Israeli barcodes begin with 729.

From www.bdsmovement.net

1. Don't buy Israeli goods
This is easier than it sounds and a list of common products from Israeli companies can be found on a series of websites listed in the Resource section. You could also send a letter to the supermarket, the media and local political parties in your country informing them of your decision and the reasons.

2. Identify and lobby retail outlets that stock Israeli goods: Outlets that stock Israeli goods can be lobbied to break off such business relations in response to Israeli policies. You can send letters to local shops and large retailers asking them to de-shelve Israeli products. Find organizations and networks that would be willing to endorse the letter in order to achieve a more powerful effect.

3. Boycott and picket outlets that do not respond to lobbying
Where outlets continue to sell Israeli goods, go a step further and write informing them that you will no longer shop there. Organize a picket of the shop and distribute campaign materials informing people of the BDS campaign.

4. Set up a local campaign and website promoting the boycott
Spread the word about the BDS campaign. Useful material, fact sheets and resources can be taken straight from the BDS website for you to set up your own local campaign. You could also provide a blacklist of outlets in the local area that are refusing to stop selling Israeli goods.

5. Further steps
Organise pickets and blockades of the transportation of Israeli produce; Encourage shop workers, dockworkers and others to refuse to handle Israeli goods; Putting out public information about companies' use of Israeli technology and components; Create a Buycott alternative, promoting ethical alternatives to Israeli goods and reward companies who publicly distance themselves from the Israeli economy with greater levels of trade.

We have designed some boycott Israel stickers.
They can be downloaded from this link and used in supermarkets etc to alert people to the facts behind the Occupation and the recent attrocities in Gaza.
PLEASE CAN YOU CIRCULATE THIS LINK WIDELY.
You will see that this is an independent action ( no organisation is behind this, just a couple of artists who are doing what they can)
The instructions and stationery codes for the stickers are on the instructions. doc which is in the download..
They just need to be printed onto sticker paper .

Roderick is right – boycott the US. The UK should also be boycotted because of its generally pro-Israeli position. The EU too should be boycotted because of the inclusion of Israel in the Euro Med Agreement. Even though this would mean boycotting ourselves until we get out of the EU in the interim we could import what we need from states with impeccably anti Israeli credentials such as Iran, Cuba and Venezuela.
