Protest as Israeli ambassador enters Dáil

category international | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Tuesday January 13, 2009 17:52author by Michael Gallagher - Photographerauthor email libertypics at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

There were 20-30 people protesting at the dáil today, which included members of the public and IPSC, as the Israeli ambassador arrived for a hearing before the Irish foreign affairs committee.
There was a lot of media there also, but the ambassador slipped in through another entrance.

No details were given to any media from the Israeli embassy about his time of arrival or what entrance he was going to use.

"No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment." (See Article 5 of UDHR at )

How does the Israeli Government justify the horrific and extremely violent killing of children in Gaza who are far too young to be guilty of any wrongdoing whatsoever?

First Venezuela, now Bolivia. Let's hope Ireland is number 3. Let's expel the Israeli ambassador and show the rest of Europe how it's done. Go Ireland!

I wonder how Shatter would react if Dublin zoo were attacked by tanks, F16s and helicopter gunships because an escaped tiger had mauled and killed a few people outside the zoo?

I'm sure he wouldn't be blaming all of the other the animals in the zoo for being on the receiving end of overwhelming and indiscriminate military force.

I doubt also that he would be accusing the tiger of hiding itself among the civilian population if it returned to the zoo after such an attack and using this as justification for exterminating all of the other animals in the zoo.

Obviously Shatter cares more about animals than Palestinians having voted to ban live hare coursing and been president of the Irish Council against Blood Sports.

Shows you where the rights of Palestinians come on his list of priorities!

In yesterdays Irish Times:

Israel a terror state and envoy should be expelled, says FF TD

FIANNA FÁIL TD Chris Andrews has described Israel as a "terror state". He stated:

"Israel has descended to such levels of brutality that it can only now be classified as a terror state," he said. "Israel appears to be uncontrollable. Israel is acting as a rogue state."

Mr Andrews said Irish supermarkets and shops should not stock what he described as "settler produce"... He called for an economic, diplomatic and political boycott of Israel, "until they realise that their actions do have consequences".

Addressing Dr Evrony, Labour Party TD Joe Costello said: "Is there any reason why we in Ireland shouldn't call in our government to have you withdrawn and sent home?"

In yesterdays Examiner: TD calls for ambassador’s expulsion as Evrony defends offensive

AN impassioned Fianna Fáil deputy broke ranks with TDs yesterday, publicly declaring Israel a “rogue state” and demanding that the Israeli ambassador be expelled from Ireland.

Irish expulsion demand strengthening: We want him out! He represents a state that is conducting a slaughter

The letter pasted below appears in today's Irish Times and represents a significant widening of the demand that Zion Evrony, Israel's ambassador to Ireland, be given his marching orders until his country stops their grim slaughter in Gaza..

Madam, – We, the undersigned, are united in seeking the immediate expulsion of the Israeli ambassador to Ireland, Dr Zion Evrony. We believe the ambassador must leave Ireland until such time as there is a complete end to Israel’s war on Gaza and its continued slaughter of the Palestinian people. – Yours, etc,
