Second Birthday of the tara Solidarity Vigil fire

Firstly, Happy Birthday to the Vigil and a Happy Summer Solstice to all :)

Reports in from walkers on the Hill of Tara are that Gardai have been staged at the car park gate all day. Currently MD Security are taking over to do the night shift!!!!

It would seem that the Gardai and hired Security are working hand in hand yet again.

A lone woman activist is being intimidated by MD Security as I write.

Is this presence an effort to avoid the alcohol related trouble of last years festival? There are no such plans to re stage any such event for precisely the same reason.

But MD Security!!!! Get the video cameras ready.

It would appear that our walkers on the Hill got it slightly wrong. The presence at the gate has been OPW not Gardai but it is correct to say that MD Security are there and included in their numbers are some well known bully boy faces as well as some new ones.

I spoke to the lone female activist mentioned in the mail above just now and she says that she is being verbally antagonised for practising her Spiritual beliefs by MD Security who are being paid for their beliefs in lots of zero zeros in overtime.

Call out for lots of cameras over the weekend.

The sunrise was beautiful this morning, the skies pink and red at the break of dawn as Harpist Laoise Kelly and a small group of people greeted the Solstice Sunrise to the sounds of her harp play. It was magical .

It was short lived however as the presence of flourescent jacketed men patrolling the hill marred the atmosphere and put a dampener on the celebrations. There was tension in the air at the sight of them.

But where were they when a group of 4 teenagers on a giant quad bike rampaged up and down the Banqueting Hall??? I kid you not. Complaints to the OPW please! This disgusting display of vandalism was allowed to go unchecked while peaceable people were being refused entry to the Hill to practise their Spiritual beliefs or to simply enjoy the experience of the Summer Solstice sunrise -at the whim of the paid Security. Gardai Were there too- several of them.

Down the road at the new Vigil camp tents were slashed during the night and cameras stolen. This intimidation tactic is nothing new. But I bet it wasnt allowed to spoil the occasion for long, their spirit is far too strong for that.

I'm not trying to make excuses for the security and the gardaí on the Hill - but perhaps they were there to ensure that there was not a re-run of last year?
it is disgraceful that the OPW are preventing particular individuals from going to the Hill and the story about the quad bikes is a downright scandal - I'd like to support the call to write to the OPW.

I think that AKA-47 ought to be told that I too was on the Hill Of Tara from first light right through until 8 o'clock in the morning.

I would love to know where Tara Tara Tara was because I nether heard nor saw any Harp player or quad ?

Would this be another bit of Tarawatch fiction Tara Tara Tara or
a drunk vision?

Hello Tim,

Laoise Kelly was playing the harp at the Banqueting Hall- the end nearest the Church. The quad bike entered from the far end at 4.55am exactly. Just because you didnt see it dosnt mean it didnt happen. Sorry you missed the beautiful music. Laoise has pics of the sunrise and of the Gardai and security at the gate on her my space page, link below. Enjoy.

Tara at the Solstice.
I went to Tara for the Summer Solstice as I have done for many of the last thirty five years but this time it was ringed by security men. They were of many nationalities but I do not hold it against them, they were simple workers who were put under orders by people far away and not there. People with tents, people with bags, musical instruments, tourists etc were refused admission and so had to leave. It was not what they came for. This was at six o clock, others got in no bother later I believe, but still it was a scary to see this happen.
For the first time in five Milena many people were locked out of, and refused entry to Tara on the Solstice, for them one of the most sacred evenings of the year.
I believe that Tara is now being prepared and moved from a place of spiritual and mystical importance to becoming a tourist site with all that entails. This has happened to the Garden of Remembrance despite a lonely campaign against it and it is happening now at Tara too. The next step will be the hotel I have warned against, as is planned, and then perhaps a fee at the gate.
Ancient festivals will become history.
