Shocking Preliminary Results from NECI Survey

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | press release author Wednesday June 11, 2008 22:02author by Dave Butler - NECI Report this post to the editors

The new National Electrical Contractors Ireland (NECI) have been shocked by the level of company's who are operating in the industry and know little or nothing about the Registered Employment Agreement. This in fact is seen by NECI as one of the major failings in the original agreement. At a National Meeting in Athlone Advice was also given on the best way to deal with EPACE at the moment.

NECI also presented some of the shocking preliminary results that are being produced by their nationwide survey of the opinions of company's operating in the electrical industry. If you are operating in electrical contracting in Ireland you can partake in the survey by the link link below or simply email your request to nationalelectricalcontractors@gmail.com.

The new NECI stressed that their objective is to be involved in the negotiations for a new Registered Employment Agreement that is fair and transparent for all employers and workers in the sector. Not as claimed to reduce all electricians pay to the minimum wage. In fact on the contrary NECI would like a grading system in place within the new agreement, where by top performing employees could be paid more than the existing rates. It is also our intention that a proper and certifiable education system will be put in place to teach all employers operating in the industry their responsibilities under the new Registered Employment Agreement.

We want to stop This Unsustainable Wage Increase Until Proper Structures & Procedures Are In Place So Employers Can Afford These Type Of Pay Increases

We want to Strike Down The Original Registered Employment Agreement
As this Agreement is fundamentally flawed in that the parties to the original agreement were not at its time of inception or to this present day substantially representative of the electrical contracting industry.
The operation and imposition of the current REA has caused severe hardship and major employment losses in the industry and is anti-competitive. It has caused severe stress and upset and has caused the cessation of undertakings engaged in Electrical Contracting.

We want A Certified Education program on the New Registered Employment Agreement To Educate All Existing Contractors On Their Responsibilities As An Employer And Their Legal Obligations Of Being A Registered Electrical Contractor.

The NECI's objection to the whole agreement is based on section 27 (3) Part C of the 1946 Industrial relations act which states that the Labour Court must be satisfied that party's to the agreement must be substantially representative of the body's they are speaking for. It is the NECIs opinion that the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) with 59 members and the Association of Electrical Contractors Of Ireland (AECI) with 360 members are not representative of the approx 4000 contractors who employ people. This hearing has now been deferred to the 16th of June.
