24th May 2008 - All Day

The venue for an all day celebration of the Tara valley is Tailor's Hall, Back Lane , Dublin 8.

The organisers, which include the Tara Valley Groups have booked the Tailor's Hall
for a family day with information stalls, AV and Powerpoint information and talks,
and a childrens area which will include food, face-painting and bi-lingual talks on
myth and legend. There will also be a treasure hunt for the kids, but adults may help out
a little bit.
Trad Music for Tara

The day begins at 12.00pm and extends into early evening with the use of the whole hall for
people to familiarise themselves with the ongoing campaigns and the future planning
for the Tara Gabhra Valley. The focus will be on Ecology and Environment, with presentations
from the Meath-Master Plan people, the Direct Action campaigns and the Heritage Park
awareness people.

From 7pm-12.30 am, there will be an evening of Trad, open mic and a DJ, for the grown ups.
(this will include story-tellers and Poetry)

There is a small fee of five euros for the day 12-6pm

(this includes all kids and is a family pass)

Hold onto that ticket cos it will allow concession for the Seisiun in the evening which
is 10 euros. There are always concession facilites and the small fee is to cover the hall
cost.

Given the history of this building and it's fantastic interior and architectural decor, it's indeed a salubrious and fitting venue for such an event. I've no doubt, it will do justice to the noble issue in question - the Tara/Skryne Valley. Looks like a packed day; hope I can make it for a while!!

I will consider it an honour and a privilege to be permitted to do some storytelling on the open mikes.

In the afternoon session, I would like to tell an abridged version of the Voyage of Mael Dun - suitable for all the family.
In the evening, I would like to tell at least one story about the Cailleach Bhéarra - the wandering hag-goddess who did so much to shape ancient Ireland.

Do dhaoine fásta is mó a bhím ag scéalaíocht, agus cuirim béim faoi leith ar na scéalta nua a bhfaighim ó fhoinsí idirnáisiúnta, ach an uair seo beidh an-áthas orm eisceacht a dhéanamh agus scéalta traidisiúnta Éireannacha a insint ar son na cúise.

Beir bua agus beannacht,
Coilín.

It would be greatly appreciated if people could print off as many of these as possible and post everywhere to show their support in a practical way. Many thanks :)

Just wanted to thank all who helped and attended the day in question. There were some last minute changes and technical issues (ahem!!) but a nice day all around. The information put out by the event made it a success.....interesting all around.

Best regards to all....
