Ógra Shinn Féin Organise Basque Solidarity Protest in Dublin

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Monday December 17, 2007 18:06author by Barry McColgan - Ógra Shinn Féinauthor email osfnational at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

Ógra Shinn Féin held a demonstration outside the GPO in Dublin Saturday last in solidarity with the people of the Basque country, especially the leaders of Batasuna and SEGI, who have been recently arrested and sentenced to irrational jail terms, by the Spanish authorities. In response to this Ógra Shinn Féin working with the Dublin Basque committee mobilised onto the streets of Dublin to bring the issue to the public.

Speaking after the protest Ógra Shinn Féin International Officer, Orlagh Mc Cauley detailed the reasons for the protest;

“I’m delighted with the attendance at today’s demonstration. Ógra in co-operation with the Dublin Basque committees brought the plight of the incarcerated pro-independence Basque activists to the streets of Dublin. Today’s protest attracted a lot of attention from the people of Dublin who seemed genuinely interested in the ongoing situation in the Basque country. Ógra Shinn Féin stand and will continue to stand in solidarity with the people in the Basque country in their calls for independence.”

“Ógra Shinn Féin mobilised here today in co-operation the Basque Solidarity committees to demand that the Spanish Government re-initiate the process of political engagement with Batasuna. The behaviour of the Spanish Government in the context of the Basque political is unacceptable and Ógra renew our demand that talks between the sides are restarted immediately.”

“Ógra Shinn Féin fully support the demands of the Basque left-independence movement the demands. We believe their cause is just and condemn unreservedly the treatment of the Basque people by the Spanish authorities. We stand, and will continue to stand, in solidarity with the youth wing in the Basque country – SEGI. We have close ties with SEGI and we believe that the attempted criminalisation of them by the Spanish authorities is a cynical, un-democratic move.”

“The Spanish Government need to immediately accept the right of the Basque people to self-determination. Ógra Shinn Féin therefore call on the Spanish authorities to immediately re-initiate the political process and put an end to the political posturing which they have engaged in up to this point.”

“Freedom for the Basque Country, Saoirse dosna Bascaigh, Jo ta ke!”

According to Martina Anderson of Sinn Fein, Immigrant Catholics should not be considered the same as Nationalist Catholics.
I presume this is in case people from Catholic countries come over and steal our quota of jobs and take up places in the PSNI. That's the Police Force which serves the British Crown in Ireland, Asier.
So it's all right to support the Basque People as long as they don't come over here to take our work.
If you want a job in Northern Ireland don't say you're a Catholic, say you're an 'OTHER'.

Asier, though I would be supportive of your people's struggle for freedom, I would question your knowledge of Ireland and it's struggle for Freedom if you still believe that Ogra or the Provos are a 'Militant organization'.
Ogra are a small youth grouping affiliated with Sinn Fein who are virtually unheard of in many Republican areas. They claim that the British have withdrawn from our country but ignore the fact that they are building a massive Spy center for MI5. They now support a Police Force which in the past has colluded in the most heinous murders, members of their parent party are leaving on a regular basis because of their support for this Force.
Ogra still support your struggle because they see you as a safe bet who don't attract much media attention. Sinn Fein wouldn't want to be associated with an organization such as yours if they happened to attract too much bad publicity because they are still having to prove themselves worthy to be in government.

"End the repression on SEGI" the OSF banner declares.

One would think that after 30 years of talking about the repression of the "republican movement", that ÓSF would know that we talk about the repression of something, and not on something. Onwards with illiteracy!

WT, ok ÓSF is a small organization, but in the basque conflict all the solidarity is welcome, and the people of ÓSF all the time suport the basque struggle.

In my travell to Belfast and Derry see the diferents os SF and RSF,view the support of the RIRA in Derry, but I support all the republican movement,I don´t like all the positions of SF,I don´t like the PSNI/RUC and SF cesions...

But in this moment ÓSF are camarads Segi, and in this moment this solidarity are very important to the Basque movement.

Asier, how would you feel that after all the years of struggle by the Basque people for Independence, if the leadership of ETA decided to drop that struggle and became part of a Puppet Government running the Basque Country on behalf of the Spanish Government?

How would you feel if those who once sent young men and women out to kill, die or be imprisoned for your cause, then supported the Spanish Police and told the Basque people to inform on those who decided to carry on the struggle for Independence?

Ogra claims to be supportive of your cause, but they would also claim to support others around the world struggling for freedom, like the Palestinians, but their leadership in Sinn Fein has over recent years been tripping over itself to be photographed in the company of those who have armed or sent armies to support and train evil Regimes and Dictatorships the world over, namely Bush and Kissinger.

Sinn Fein is now in Government and like all Governments, except for a courageous few, they are at the beck and call of Washington.

All I hear is people criticising young republicans for demonstrating solidarity for the Basque people who are currently being bitterly oppressed.

Ógra support Sinn Féin and Batasuna, and we know which armed wings which are associated with those two.

Despite this when Ógra protested for republican POWs last year they protested for the release of all Republican POW's.

But really do you expect Ógra the youth wing of Sinn Féin to be protesting daily for every other republican org???? Get your own youth wings to be active FFS and stop criticisng others for being active.

Look you's do what you's do (whatever that is) and we'll focus on our own STRATEGY,

No wonder you's don't attract anybody... full of cynics and armchairs!
