Ecuador wants military base in Miami

category international | anti-war | other press author Wednesday October 24, 2007 13:48author by Terence Report this post to the editors

A strike at the heart of hypocrisy

Yes, you read that headline correctly!

In a brilliant strike at the never ending hypocrisy of the US government, the new left wing President Rafael Correa of Ecuador said Washington must let him open a military base in Miami if the United States wants to keep using an air base on Ecuador's Pacific coast.

The existing lease on the current US base in Ecuador expires in 2009. Now that this call has been made, the US govt will no doubt work hard to have him removed by then, as the base can surely be used for no other purposes than for their own self corporate interest.

The story itself was reported by Reuters and it can be found at the URL below.

Here's some quotes from it.

"We'll renew the base on one condition: that they let us put a base in Miami -- an Ecuadorean base," Correa said in an interview during a trip to Italy.

"If there's no problem having foreign soldiers on a country's soil, surely they'll let us have an Ecuadorean base in the United States."
