Rossport Still Resists Overweening Corporate & State Power (photos/report of today's protest)

news report
Friday October 12, 2007 17:52 by TJ - Shell to Sea
"We aim to please" Today's, Shell to Sea well humoured protest outside Shell's Bellanaboy proposed gas refinery site was marred by heavy-handed policing; sit down protesters blockading the Rossport bridge dragged by the hair, one activist, at least, having vivid red throttling finger marks around his throat and concerted harassment of attending photographers - including myself. O'Reilly, the uber-meister of "crowd control," it was quickly noted was back, looking composed and in control of his customary aggression, however, this was not put to the litmus test as he remained in his grey 4-wheel drive throughout the duration of the protest, patrolling and monitoring the situation. |

Old Cop...................................................New Cop
Watch your language sunshine!
Ha Ha Maura! You know as well as I that all comments unsupportive of the tiny minority that make up S2S are removed post haste from this site. I'm betting this one will last less than anhour!
Second post of yours tonight to get through wherever others didn't - good!
Let's hope you experience no more difficulties - are you quite sure that you clicked 'confirm and publish' in the 'disappeared' posts?
can someone explain to me why in order to post to this thread, one has to agree totally with S2S? I have expressed anti S2S views here in the past, without using bad language or resorting to insulting individuals, yet when I check back, my posts have disappeared. I know that what I have said would not be to the taste of everyone here, but surely that is the point of a reasoned argument. I am no gas expert, but I think this project is of value to the area. It is surely up to others more in the the know to let me know what they think, but it seems to me that at the first whiff of dissent, a post is deleted. This does no-one any good and I think it would be in the interest of S2S to make sure that every opinion, no matter how opposed to their own, is aired, if only to disperse the view that this debate is one-sided. As I said, I am more pro-gas than anti- but I would hope that any reasoned opinion would be listened to, if only to enlighten those of us who you might regard as unenlightened. I hate the need to justify myself, but with regard to other posts, I am not an employee of shell or any other company associated in any way with the project. I am just an ordinary member of the public.
I see a new cop gaffer in the photographs . Did Super Cop Gannon get his walking papers at last?
well done to all involved. bloody brilliant.
Several people wondered why with a major murder case going on in Galway, so many of Galway's finest preferred the otherwise fresh air of Erris.
I want to take this time to congradulate the protesters who held sway during this event. Its activism like this that shows this country
still has some people who give a shit over this daylight robbery . Nice work.
