Is 'International law' just a rhetorical phrase signalling our disapproval of a military adventure or does it refer to a set of inviolable rules that all states have agreed to? Neither, says Prof James Alexander.

The "superflu" fizzled out like every winter bug does, but the media and NHS had everyone panicking anyway, say Carl Heneghan and Tom Jefferson. We need less drama and more data; we've all seen winters before.

Fox "News" leads attack on Iran

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Thursday August 23, 2007 23:49author by Anthony G - AWI (personal capacity) Report this post to the editors

All right-thinking people who support basic human rights unequivocally condemn the attacks on the Iranian people currently being perpetrated by the government of Iran. However we also condemn potential future attacks on the people of Iran being carried out by any other regime.

Over in North America, the Bush administration with the help of Fox News is again trying to manipulate the people of the US into supporting another imperialist oil-grab. Film maker, Robert Greenwald has put together a short film comparing clips of Fox "News" coverage of Iraq in 2003 with that of Iran in 2007 and the parallels are very clear in an effort to avoid repeating the wrongs of the not so distant past.

While the elites managed to get away with the WMD fabrication four years ago, there's no way they would get away with the same lie in Western Europe as the European media eventually (albeit far too late) started to question the premises upon which the attack on Iraq was launched.

One interesting fact presented in the film is that "33% of Fox viewers believed that WMDs were found in Iraq." The scary part is that this poll was carried out in October 2003 when the rest of the world had realised that there was no evidence of WMDs and that it was nothing but an excuse for a vicious war.

Here's hoping that enough people in the US just say no to the scare-mongering, war-mongering and the plain lies that they are being fed by the Bush adminstration and their allies in Fox. Here's hoping that enough journalists will start asking questions and start examining the real strategic and economic reasons for an attack on Iran. Here's hoping that we in Ireland don't end up with Shannon being used to facilitate the destruction of a third Middle Eastern country this decade.
