Meath Ogra Shinn Fein Protests

category national | eu | news report author Wednesday July 25, 2007 23:36author by David Byrne - IrishRepublican.net News Report this post to the editors

Protesting the arrests of four protestors

Meath Ogra Shinn Fein came out in force today to show solidarity with the four men arrested at the controversial M3 developement in Tara, Co.Meath.
The four men, who range in age from 20 to 70, were among a group of seven heritage campaigners who were manhandled by construction workers and charged with public order offences yesterday following the clashes with security and construction workers last week.

Meath OSF staged a solidarity protest for several hours with other groups such as Tara Watch and Save Tara present. There was a sizeable crowd and the four men recieved a roaring welcome. Ogra activists also distributed leaflets outlining their stance, which entails the re-routing of the M3 Motorway and a scrapping of the double toll policy.
Speaking on the issue David Byrne of Meath Ógra Shinn Féin said,
“The whole idea of a motorway and interchange so close to what is an archaeological site of such importance is nauseating, Tara is of critical importance for Irish people as a symbol of national identity, it should be treasured and protected by our respective governments come what may. The determination of this Fianna Fail party and their ignorance prove that today’s Irish government care more for foreign investors than they do for the Irish public. The fact of the matter is the road can be redirected West of Tara . The redirection of the M3 west of Tara will cut the length of the motorway by seven kilometres, cut costs by up to 80 million and most importantly rescue one of Irelands most important pre-historic complexes.”
“Meath Ógra Shinn Féin pledges full support the campaign to save Tara and have the M3 rerouted away from the site of massive historical importance and to bring and end to the destruction to our nation heritage. ”

Re-Route the M3 Now.

am sure that the men who clapped for the -7- people who have been criminalised by this state include
the three women who hold the same bail conditions until September the fifth and also the young Irish
woman who was brutally and publically assaulted by the contractors.
The revolt images are on the features page and the campaign is accepting offers of help and support from
all political hues and people opposed to the summary arrest and charging of seven citizens.

To date I have only seen the presents of Ogra Sinn Fein at Tara demo's.
Where are the elders of Sinn Fein ?
Why are they not getting more involved ?
They have TD's who are in a postion to help this issue, why are they silent ?

I find it ironic that SF are protestign on this when over the past few days we have seen their Councillors and TDs use their votes to give the government a majority in the senate.

Sinn Fein oppose the route of the Motorway. They have released a statement detail such which is available on the Savetara.com website.

Good to see you lot highlighting the issue of Tara, every little helps!

Keep it up and try to make it to the solidarity camp if you can, word has it that they could do with more numbers to combat the lackeys of the state.

Solidarity, Johnny.
