GARDAI PROBE ATTACK ON CRIME CRITIC

A search was still underway last night for two young men who
attacked and injured Limerick RSF community activist Sean
O’Neill over his stand on anti-social behaviour.

The Prospect resident was returning from inspecting a burned
out house in Ballinacurra Weston on Tuesday night last when he
was set upon by the hooded men who were armed with baseball bats.

The attack took place near Donnellan’s Buildings on
the Rosbrien Road not far from his home. During the
unprovoked attack one of the thugs referred to his strong
stand on the Limerick crime gangs.

“I was shocked and knocked to the ground by the attack,”
he said last night. “I was kicked and beaten – they seemed
to have implements maybe a baseball bat.

“Early on Wednesday morning I reported the assault on me
to Gardai at Roxboro Station and I gave details of my
attackers.

“I will not be silenced by this cowardly attack on me. The
people of the area know my stand on anti-social behaviour
and they know that I am not afraid to speak out against the
plague of vandalism and crime blighting many parts of
Limerick.

“If they think that this attack is going to frighten me they
are mistaken. Some one has to take a stand against the
decline in social order in our city.”
