There's method in Trump's tariff madness, says Ramesh Thakur. Uniting his America First, anti-Net Zero and anti-DEI policies is an imperative to untangle the US from strategic dependence on an ascendant China.

A Call For Support

category limerick | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Wednesday June 07, 2006 03:03author by Seán Ryan and Orla Kaiser Report this post to the editors

Things have worsened in Pallaskenry and Kildimo.

Contractors arrive in the morning. People will move aside or else!!

Press Release.

Bleach Lough Water Retention Committee have been issued an ultimatum. Contractors will be arriving at 9.30am this morning to replace natural spring water with water from the river Deel. Limerick County Council has admitted that the river Deel is one of the most polluted rivers in Ireland. This will not deter them from demanding that the peoples of Pallaskenry and Kildimo accept this as their drinking water. We will fight this and we shall not allow contractors to cross the line.

You as a member of the Press are asked to witness this and to tell our story.

Donal O Brien.

The above was sent to most of the journalists in Ireland, and to many abroad. The people of County Limerick need our support.

This issue has malingered for nearly 15 years. Limerick County Council has never once offered a reason as to why these people are to be deprived of their clean and healthy spring water.

This is obviously not acceptable behaviour by public servants.

We shall name and shame each and every councillor that would put families and an ancient community at risk.

We guarantee seats will be lost.

Perhaps Limerick county council have a plan to privatise the water and it just wouldn't be fair to have other people getting clean water for free.

Or maybe there are 'talks' with a spring-water bottling company going on and the council have already effectively sold the Bleach Lough water and they can't have the locals using it.

Or maybe somebody is just trying to expand the market for bottled water because if you already have clean water you will hardly buy it, but with dirty water from the Deel well sales can only go up.

Whatever backroom deals and plots have been made between the council and private enterprise, I wish the locals all the best in their fight against them.

I see that the Gleeson Group [drinks and bottled water distributor] made a major expansion of its facility last year in Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary. “The expansion [included] a complete new high-speed, modern bottle water production line.
Established in 1974 by brothers Nicholas and Patrick Cooney, the Gleeson Group's portfolio of brands includes Tipperary Natural Mineral Water, Finches, Country Spring soft drinks, Devil's Bit cider, Merry's cream liqueur and Magic Stick freeze pops.
As the second largest wholesaler for the licensed trade in Ireland, it also holds the Irish agency for a number of international brands, including Bavaria Lager. “We operate out of eight distribution centres in Dublin, Borrisoleigh, Clonmel, Macroom, Drogheda, Cavan, Donegal and Belfast,” said Cooney. It also bought several soft drink brands, including Finches, Corcorans, Splash and Cadet, from Diageo subsidiary United Beverages, at a cost of €15 million.

Hmmn....I wonder where they get the water for all this? and the other water bottling firms?
Or maybe it is just planning permissions for massive development in the area which will need more water than the lake provides, as the council seems to have said?
