MORE Greyhound Industry Cruelty

Subject: Fw: Fw:eva

Eva was found one morning by a girl in her back garden in Ballinasloe, County Galway. This girl Rachel already had some rescued Greyhounds and poor Eva (as we named her) was badly injured and infected. She was brought to a Vet who said that the injuries to her ears were caused by Battery Acid or burning, as the hair around her ears was also synged. Her ears were septic , of a texture like charred fabric and one was burned right through with a gaping hole. The bluish ink from Greyhound Industry tatoos was apparent on the bits of her ear that were still hanging in tatters. Her left front leg had a large chunk of skin missing, it cannot be stitched and requires constant changing of dressings. Her ears were full of pus and she screeches if she thinks she is going to be lifted.

Despite all of this cruelty being done to her she is a gentle little lady. We recon she is about 1-2 years old and is slight in size. Her appetite is fantastic and she is doing well here at Dog Rescue Ireland in Dublin. The bastards from the Greyhound Racing Industry who did this to dispose of Eva without being traced by her ear tatoos deserve jailing. They are still loose out there with impunity from prosecution and will probably do this again, or possibly have done so already to other dogs of no use to them. A slow dog does not win them money. They are pure scum.
This dog is not the first as already ears of others have been removed by Greyhound Racing people... the three found dead in waterford....the black and white dog in Kerry ...fionn who was almost scalped and now Eva.

A BAN ON GREYHOUND RACING IS THE ONLY SOLUTION.HELP US ACHEIVE THIS BEFORE MORE DOGS ARE MUTILATED>

Johnny P - Bord Na gCon recently opted to no longer fund the animal welfare group PAWS which catered for retired greyhound welfare. This is despite the huge amounts of money made by owners of greyhounds.

http://www.indymedia.ie/article/75938

This speaks volumes really.

I am sure there are plenty of greyhound owners who love their dogs whether they are making money for them or not, however Bernie is right, alot of owners once the dog is no longer as fast as it once was, will sell them to the Spanish greyhound industry. In Spain, standards are much lower than here. The even more unscrupulous owners who have no need of their dogs mutilate them so as not to be identified. This is not an uncommon occurrence, judging by the amount of times it is reported in the media;. I am sure Bernie could easily give you a clearer picture than I can. What is even more common is dogs being unceremoniously put down en masse when they outlive their usefulness, which was recently reported.

All the evidence is there that we are less caring than we should be about our greyhounds.

Personally I would have no objection to greyhound racing once the animals were treated with respect, without cruelty and were retired properly.

there is too much of this going on for people to ignore. it needs to be illegal to race these dogs or they will never stop suffering!!!

the only solution!!!!! are you well?? Plenty of people in Greyhound racing love their dogs (fast or slow) and would never do anything to harm them.

This is not a common ocurrance and as you only referred to about 5 cases you havent ecactly offered strong evidence for me to believe it is.

Why dont yopu approach Bord Na Gcon and ask them to donate a small % of each racing fee to this grehound shelter.
