Traditional Concert Doolin, Co Clare, Rossport 5 Fundraiser.

category mayo | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Friday August 19, 2005 14:55author by Niall Harnettauthor email clare at shelltosea dot com Report this post to the editors

A moment in time connecting 2 strong, vibrant, coastal, musical communities ... Doolin and Rossport.

Over EUR 3000.00 raised for the Rossport Five Fund as over 40 musicians, singers and dancers played to a packed audience for over four hours at The Russell Cultural Centre in Doolin, last night Thursday 18th August.

Thanks to concert organiser Mattie Shannon.
Thanks also to Mike Shanahan, Kevin Griffin, Shane McGowan, Michael Nagle, Ritchie Jones, Ritchie Nagle and Carol Weafer for sound and looking after things on the night.

Special thanks to all the musicians, singers and dancers. Rock on!.
Mick Flynn, Danny Burke, Ger Hoyne, Sonja O'Brien, Paul Stafford, Michel Bonamy, Davie Spillane, Peadar Reilly.
Mick Flynn, Danny Burke, Ger Hoyne, Sonja O'Brien, Paul Stafford, Michel Bonamy, Davie Spillane, Peadar Reilly.

Great music in the hall, crowd delighted, conversations in the lobby between locals, visitors and media, discussions about Shell and the Government, info flyers given out, 'Justice for the Rossport 5' t-shirts sold, invitations to and plans made for coming to the Rossport Solidarity Camp.

Once again it's down to the ordinary people of Ireland to show their support for the ShelltoSea campaign and to work on behalf of our citizens in their fight against our Government who persist in aiding and abetting a foreign private company in the criminalisation of innocent people trying to protect their families and communities from the predation of Shell, who's own record speaks for itself... environmental destruction and murder.

How were they ever let into this country?
Answer: Our government opened the door, did everything to make life easy for them and hard for those who are prepared to say NO to them.
Result: 5 men in jail and a community in crisis for the last 5 years.
Great job Bertie, Noel Dempsey, Frank Fahey, Ray Burke, Dermot Ahern and Michael McDowell minister for injustice. Proud of yourselves aren't ye. Yes, indeed ye are and that's the shame of it.

Vindicate the Rossport 5.

and music can and does change the world:
the berlin love parade

in cold war 80`s berlin people protested, they were ANTI this, anti that but then in 1989, 150 people in berlin had a demonstration FOR tolerance, respect and communication between nations. not only that but they decided to be creative and they turned it into a little free techno party on the streets. 10 years later and there was 1.5million people dancing on the streets of berlin,
