Read what happened when an Extinction Rebellion meeting was disrupted by a protester. Seems they can give it out but have no intention of putting up with it themselves.

First they were 'Asian' grooming gangs, then 'Pakistani'. But the most important thing to grasp is that almost all of them ? 87% of convictions ? are Muslim, says Mark Durie. This must not be covered up.

Public meeting on Anti-Social Behaviour Orders and the Criminal Justice Bill

Monday May 30th 8pm Wynns Hotel, Abbey St

Speakers:

Andrew Goonery and Martina O'Brien (North Clondalkin Critical Social Group)- both 16 years of age

Fr Peter McVerry, Social issues campaigner

Niall Stokes, Editor, Hot press

Ivana Bacik, Reid Professor of Criminal Law, Trinity College

Aonghus O Snodaigh, Sinn Fein spokesperson on Justice and Equality

Chair: Rory Hearne, Deputy President/Campaigns Officer, USI

Everybody welcome

This public meeting will give the public an opportunity to hear the different voices that are coming together to campaign against the proposal of the Minister for Justice to introduce ASBOs. It will discuss the issues and discuss future action (public events/protests) that we can organise in order to further pressure the Government and the Minister for Justice to drop their proposals to introduce ASBOs and aspects of the Criminal Justice Bill which infringe civil liberties.

Andrew Goonery and Martina O'Brien are members of the North Clondalkin Critical Social Group. They are both 16 years of age and live in the Clondalkin area. They are very outspoken against Asbos and will speak on behalf of their age group against them. The Critical Social Group is made up of young people from the Clondalkin area interested in social and political issues.

Peter McVerry has been very outspoken on the negative impacts that the introduction ASBOs could have. Speakers such as Ivana Bacik, Niall Stokes and Aonghus O Snodaigh will speak on ASBOs and the aspects of the new Criminal Justice Bill which will further infringe on civil liberties. These include on the spot fines and increasing the power of the Gardai. Rory Hearne is Campaigns officer with the Union of Students of Ireland (USI). USI are very concerned about the potential for ASBOs and aspects of the criminal justice bill to infringe on the rights of young people and students to be young, protest and express themselves.
