Old Head of Kinsale Walked Again

category cork | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Sunday August 22, 2004 23:38author by james wsm cork Report this post to the editors

Protestors walk the Old Head of Kinsale in first mass trespass in over one year.

At todays peoples picnic on the Old Head of Kinsale in Cork protestors climbed the walls and crossed the razor wire to again walk to the lighthouse.

The battle for access has been ongoing for years. It began with several mass trespasses over recent years. These had declined after the Supreme Court found in favour of the Golf course owners on a technical point and large numbers of Gardai and hired security were deployed to frustrate the protestors.

However today unexpectedly for the Golf course and Gardai most of the protestors climbed the walls and the razor wire to gain access to the walk. After completing the walk to the Old Head singing and clearly elated the protesting picnic brigade returned to the gates.

It demonstrated that with a little initiative and some determination what can be done. by walking the Old Head the protestors are making a mockery of the claims of the owners that they have won and that the issue is dead.
